Wanting a long-term commitment from an actor/actress isn't unusual. Especially in a movie that's part of a series. Most of the TV actors who sign up for a new TV series sign a five to seven-year commitment.
You need the right Bond. He needs to be experienced, dedicated to Great Britain (country first), handsome, suave, debonair, with a certain intensity that comes through when called for.
Just Googling young male British actors brings up a guy who could fit the bill in Alex Pettyfer. I don't know how good of an actor he is, but he has the right look. (Not that anyone in a Bond film is ever up for an Oscar for their acting.) If you do a Google image search for Alex Pettyfer you can find a few hundred photos of him and judge for yourself.

The full article also said Rege Jean Page (sp?) is a likely favorite candidate. He was in the first season of Bridgerton and another Shondra Rhimes series. I think he could fit the bill.
Of course, screenwriters take artistic liberty all the time .... so it's not outside the realm of possibility that Daniel Craig's Bond was just faking his death.
At some point, wasn't M's death faked?
If they could convince Craig to come back, and threw a LOT of money at him to do so, it could be done. But from a health and safety standpoint, these actors get pretty banged up in filming ... and serious injuries happen, even if they have stunt doubles doing a majority of the action sequences.
