Without QVC built-in /structured sub forums, individual posts get lost

[ Edited ]

QVC Webbie, I initially posted this information in the Beauty forum (hot link - You need to add sub forum tag to EACH post). Once I looked it over, I also wanted to share it here because I think it really illustrates an inherent problem with the current sub forum structure. -- FYI, I post almost exclusively to the WEN sub forum (which is within the Beauty forum). Yesterday I noticed the problem that I've illustrated below. I checked the Beauty forum and WEN sub forum about a dozen times yesterday, just to make sure I was seeing the problem that I've written about below. Thank you for your time and attention to this problem, bebeSmiley Happy

I'm going to do my best to explain this problem using the WEN forum subcategory (since I read the WEN sub forum), but this problem applies to EVERY sub forum...

Yesterday (wednesday, June 17th), every 3-4 hours I clicked on the WEN sub category forum to read the newest posts. I was surprised to find so very few new posts

Early yesterday evening, I had a look through the posts in the Beauty forum and I was surprised to find a number of posts to individual Wen threads were not showing up as NEW posts in the WEN sub forum.

If you look through all the WEN sub forum threads, you will find that most (if not all) of the Wen threads are listed in the WEN sub forum.

The problem is that you generally don't know that someone has posted a brand new reply to a Wen thread because, most of the time, the posters have not included a WEN tag in EACH new post to a particular Wen thread.

It isn't just sufficient to have had someone, at a particular time, tag a PARTICULAR post in a Wen thread. -- That just lets the computer system know that that particular INDIVIDUAL post should also appear in the WEN subforum.

It is necessary for EVERY INDIVIDUAL post to be tagged in each particular Wen thread. -- Individual posts that are not tagged will not appear as BRAND NEW POSTS in the WEN sub forum.

So unless Wenners put the WEN tag on every one of their new Wen posts, the only way to be able to read all the new Wen is to read through all of the posts in the Beauty category which is much more time consuming... at least for people like me who really are only interested in reading the WEN sub forum posts.

Below I'm going to try to list all of the INDIVIDUAL Wen THREADS (as opposed to individual Wen POSTS) that appeared in the Beauty forum yestarday (wednesday, June 17th...  through about 5am ET this morning). Most of them never appeared as NEW POSTS in the WEN sub forum.

Barbie, I hope you don't mind -- I don't think you willSmiley Happy -- because I'm going to use your two early morning posts as a quick example of what I'm talking about. btw, it's good to see you here!!!

Early this morning, in the Beauty forum, Backwoods Barbie started a new thread called Who Has Received Their 613 OTO? (hot link). That post also appeared in the WEN sub forum becauseshe tagged that particular post with the WEN tag. You can see the individual WEN tag on that particular post.

Barbie also posted a reply to the Wenners, click on top tags for sub forum!  (hot link) Wen thread that Hilary started. That NEW post did not appear in the WEN sub forum because it was not tagged WEN. You can that there is not an individual WEN tag on that particular post.

I'm going the list them with the most recent THREADS listed first. Then you can compare this list with the new THREAD listing in the WEN sub forum. You'll see that a lot of Wen THREADS never were listed in the WEN sub forum yesterday...

NOTE: In the Beauty forum, every time someone adds a new post (within a THREAD) that thread is moved to the top of the Beauty forum, so I have no way to list yesterday's posting history. I can only lists the recent activity of the various THREADS. -- In contrast, the WEN sub forum activity is listed post by post, so that you can see each individual tagged WEN post. -- To try to make the comparison below easier, I have only listed each of yesterday's WEN sub forum TAGGED THREADS once. -- At the very least, you can see that while 17 Wen threads were discussed in the Beauty forum yesterday, only 11 Wen threads (were TAGGED WEN)  in discussed in the WEN sub forum. -- More to the point, for example, a individual Wen thread might have had 5 posts in the Beauty forum but only one of those posts might have been tagged and listed in the WEN sub forum.

Re: Without QVC built-in /structured sub forums, individual posts get lost

Bebe

When I first posted my thread (Got my 1st WEN order) I didn't originally remember the tag, but after reading and surfing for a bit, I went back and added it. I think that's why it finally got noticed.

If we had a proper sub forum, I would have known where to put it. I'd still tag it if that's what Q wants on the new forums, but I still have trouble finding all the WEN threads which are important to me as a new WEN user. It's hard with all the clutter!

Re: Without QVC built-in /structured sub forums, individual posts get lost

Hi Sam, and btw welcome again to the wenderful world of Wen!!! On the Beauty forum, just now, I said "hi" to you in two different posts on your thread. -- As the original poster (OP) of the thread, you had tagged the thread with the WEN sub forum.

So it would seem logical to think that any posts to that thread would automatically also show up in the WEN sub forum (in addition to the Beauty forum). *sigh* But that's not how it is working.

In my first reply, I DIDN'T add a WEN tag to my post and it did NOT show up in the WEN sub forum.

In my second reply, I DID add a WEN tag to my post and it DID show up in the WEN sub forum.

What a headache... but at least you have great Wen hair now!!

Hi Bebe!

So that's why they're not showing up under the WEN list. Thank you for figuring that out!

And thank you for the welcome...I really appreciate it! 😊

I haven't played tag since grade school. What's next? Duck, duck, goose?
bebe, I hope your post illustrates the need for sub forums, and the futility of tagging posts.

I don't mind the tagging so much, but I wish they would clean up the mess that the tag section is by building in a better format for viewing.
