Re: Update on ‘host shopping’

I don't know why it seems this sales tactic bothers so many people to require numerous threads about it!  Whichever ploy they use to try and get me to purchase doesn't matter.  It is up to ME to spend/shop wisely.

Has anyone ever REALLY missed out purchasing an item that a host  claimed to have just bought?  Be honest!

They have been doing it for years and not just the host you are all harping on.  It started a long time ago.  If QVC wanted it stopped, they would not have let it continue for so many years.

I highly doubt these complaint threads of a few dozen people (compared to 95 million households) brought about any type of change.  If the sales numbers show it isn't working, that would be why it was changed.  If the sales spike during such conversations...it will continue.

Doesn't much bother me either way.

Re: Update on ‘host shopping’

Sometimes I wonder waht size house and what size closets some of the hosts have. , they must be ginormous. Some are always saying I have this in 3 colors, I have got to order this in -- etc. It is amusing.   I realize thye do get a lot of samples like makeup and skin care, but they  often talk about purchasing or " iam going to purchase". Alright Q, whatever works for you guys, but it does come across to your customers as pretty cheezy sometimes.

I wonder if people watch QVC to shop or to delve into the lives of the hosts.

I feel indifferent to hosts ordering during their shows, whether it’s just a sales ploy or if it’s real. In and of itself, a little of that does not bother me or dissuade me from purchasing.

But when the host actually hijacks the show for a ridiculous amount of time just so she can talk to the producer to shop for her, I’m done.  She treats him/her like her personal shopper, as if she is a TV star, and we are privileged to be along for her ride. “Should I get an XS or an XXS?” “Did I get my color!?” “Wait, did I get my color??!?”  “No, don’t tell me I didn’t get it!” “What? I’m freaking out right now.  Did I get it???” “The XS?” “Tell me you got it!” “Did I get it?? ..........

I’ve seen that over-indulgence played over enough times to never want to waste my time trying to shop during her shows again.

^That^ times 1000!  I saw the show where those type of antics occurred and it totally turned me off the host AND the product,  to the point that I changed the channel.

And Q? Just a FYI:  if my eyes aren't watching, then I'm not buying.

I agree, her manner and pretend meltdowns are very annoying!

The one host who orders on air would not be caught dead wearing anything from QVC. That do they think we are stupid?

It's a ploy and it's always been a ploy. Lisa R used to do this and might even be the one who initiated it. The difference was she didn't do it constantly and she seemed believable when she did it, like she might actually be ordering. I then would often see her wearing what she'd claimed to buy... At the end of the day it's really not a big deal. I barely watch QVC anymore so it's not an issue but even when I did, it didn't really bother me unless or until it became too frequent and too obvious... QVC so infrequently offers anything of interest anymore that it's a non-issue for me. Even when I was a regular viewer, though, I wasn't swayed by hosts claiming to be buying and learned early on not to be swayed by their frenzy or their efforts to convince me not to be left out...

I would think that QVC would not like to hear the hosts on air saying that they are buying too much,  need to slow down purchases, or stop buying so much, as that has many viewers rethinking whether to purchase or not as they too may be spending too much money.

Re: Update on ‘host shopping’

Have to agree - she rarely wears clothing featured on QVC - the assortment of dramatic dresses/shoes/earrings we see are most certainly not from there!.....except for the OBI belt that she tried to wear with everything whether it worked or not.

I have never felt she is really there to talk to the viewer/shopper.  She spends far too little time describing the clothing in any useful way and it takes her ages to get to the colors because she is busy trying on the color she likes and admiring herself....really seems to feel the set is her personal stage.  Stopped watching any show she hosts altogether.
