My daughter bought me some sage for getting spirits to leave, but I have never used it.

The first house we lived in had a young male spirit who I and my youngest son saw.  He wasn't scary, but unnerving.  I never told anyone about him and my son didn't either.  It caused my son a lot of anxiety at the time.

Once we moved out, years later my son and the new owners youngest son happened to be at the same party and admitted to each other that they saw a spirit.  So, I suppose he, the spirit, is still there.  Our old house seems to have new owners every few years.  It is for sale a lot.

We built the house we live in now.  At first, it was quiet, but new spirits have found their way in. They drove my dogs crazy and finally one night, I lost it.

I verbally uninvited them to " get out."  I said they were not welcome.  I was pretty harsh.  Well, a few days later, our Hunter fan light above our bed was broken.  The metal arms were spit in two with no bends and the pieces were on the bed and in the floor.  I suppose I PO someone.

After that, things have been pretty quiet, although occasionally, I suspect somone is passing through, but they don't stay long.

My youngest son who lives alone has occasionally had spirits in his house.  They seem to come and go as well.  He was once pushed by one. He occasionally hears them chatting.  I have never heard that at our house.

The spirits who visit is will drain the batteries from cell phones and IPads.  They ruined one of my son's phones too.  My son could not recharge the battery. We all keep our devices plugged into the chargers at night.  They only seem to drain unplugged devices.

I feel for you.  It is very unnerving, but as long as the spirits are human and not evil, you're good.

I hope the saging works for you.  I understand it does remove the spirits, but I am not sure it will keep new ones away. It is supposed to restore positive energy to your home.  It can't hurt to try.

I've heard of saging/smudging a house to welcome good energy.  My niece and her husband do it every New Year's Eve.  They open all the doors and windows in their home.  Then they light and blow out the sage bundle, and move through the house  to bring in the new year.

Some people do it when they first move into their new home.

I know others who sage their room on a regular basis before meditation.

It's all quite common.  The practice goes back centuries.

I've never heard of ghosts as a reason, but I guess it couldn't hurt.

@STYLE I hope your saging is successful. I know it is important to systemically sage the doors and windows room-by-room pushing toward the exit area.

My friend will not purchase antique furniture, particularly mirrors. She said spirits can get attached to furnishings. I have read that spirits can be attached to the land and stay there after a house or building is destroyed.  That might explain why your newer house has spirits. People also treat the outside perimeter of their house with salt focusing on doorways and windows.

@On It  I do not bring antique or pre-owned things of any type into my home including mirrors and jewelry unless I know the original owner.

I also do not go into antique shops, or feel comfortable in thrift or second hand stores. No Ouija boards or other things that invite spirits to communicate with the living either.

Anyone who is sensitive and aware will tell you that those stores always have " visitors" of the spiritual kind that are always there.

Sometimes spirits are attached to people...friends or Relatives ( grandma ) and often spirits are attracted to living people who can see or hear them. They want to send a message or be heard.

Often, when we think we see spirits, what we see is residual energy. This is negative energy that records over and over again like watching something on TV. This might happen after an accident some traumatic event.

Most "visitors" are not evil.  I thank God, that I only have had contact with the human kind and pray that he protects me from the evil kind.

I too was going to suggest researching the land on which the house sits rather than concentrating on the house itself.

@STYLE   All of the responses are good, but have you considered Holy Water? You don't have to be a Catholic to use it, nor do you have to be one to get free holy water at any church. Just bring a small container and sprinkle liberally all around the affected rooms.

My daughter was having strange dreams and occurrences and we decided it was from something she picked up at the Goodwill. She's a thrifter and often shops at their stores.I  do know that you should never get a mirror there -- it can hold spirits and images and let them loose.  I know how outre that sounds, but it's been documented.

Burial grounds or the proximity to a hospital are also possibilities.

Good luck and God Bless!

Re: SAGING FOR SPIRITS

In my family, the women can all "see" things. Plus my niece who lives with me is Wiccan. So, we are used to having incidents.

I live in a block of townhomes that are all rentals, so many people are moving through. Two years ago someone was murdered. I used to see the victim around after she passed (as did my niece and my more sensitive neighbors.) She wasn't happy, but she didn't seem particularly harmful. As far as I know, no one saged. That particular home gets a new renter quite frequently, but that could be a coincidence.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
