Before Christmas, ABC news did a made in America story every night. I was impressed with many of the featured products. I bet national attention really helped the bottom lineof those companies.

Those were great stories.  I checked out every company featured via their websites.  I'm sure the publicity helped them.  The only issue is that they were small companies and it took forever to get what I ordered from the Chocolate Pizza co.  Shipping was high too, but it was a great product once it got here.

There is still a lot of manufacturing done in this country.

But most items are not what you're going to see on QVC.

Manufacturing jobs??  The U.S. lost more than 100,000 manufacturing jobs in 2025.

The U.S. hasn't been a manufacturing country since the mid 1900s. And we won't become one until the feds severely penalize and tax corporations that outsource and make the cost of imported products to build less expensive.

If the U.S. wants other countries to buy from us, we have to buy from them. That's not what's happening right now.

Re: Made In America

[ Edited ]

There will never, ever be large scale mass garment manufacturing in the United States again.

There are some denim manufacturers domestically,  but the operations are possible only due to the owners, overseas production which subsidizes the American facility.  Costs incurred are just too high to price the garment at a competitive price.

Sure, there is small batch, specialty production here, but nothing large-scale which most retailers would require.

@They CallMe MRWILKES I'm glad not everyone is so quick to sell America short.  There is no reason why we can't have large-scale manufacturing in this country.  We have the resources, the people, and the technical knowledge to do so much more than we have been doing.  It's time to bring back some decent jobs so more people who want and need to work can make a living.

Another constant problem is that many manufacturing jobs are very hard to fill and keep filled.  People quit because they don't want to work that hard.

Question ....  Who in their right mind would want their grandchild to grow up and spend years working in a factory?

No one I know.
