Because "civics" is code for politics.  The two cannot be separated.  And we know politics cannot be intelligently discussed on this board.  It's unfortunate but it's a fact.

I can't agee with you that Civics is a code for politics. Civics is, by definition, a study of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.  I can think of no reason that talking about our rights and responsibilities as American citizens is just about politics.  And I'd bet there are dozens of people, who read this board but may not ever post, who could benefit from hearing about our responsibillities as citizens of this great country.

I understand that politics are not supposed to be discussed on the forums, but I was wondering if the same held true about civics?  At one point it looked like there was a thread asking how the electoral college worked, and it was removed.  There is definitely a difference between discussing the way the government works as outlined by laws, versus a discussion of politicians and their opinions about those law and social issues.  In a year when so many questions may come up, it seems fair enough to ask if we can have a little leniency in terms of helping to clarify how our government works.  There are threads dedicated to discussions of global warming and being critical of transgender people.  Is it too much to ask to be allowed to explain or discuss the way a Presidential candidate or Supreme Court justice gets nominated?

A huge Amen to this, @RazorSharp. It would be nice to "talk" amongst friends about political processes. We all come to the table with different mindsets and opinions but why can't we leave these out and just have a civil conversation to be educated and/or reminded just how our government works? For example, it would be nice to discuss the possibility of a brokered RNC Convention and what that is exactly.

@Perhaps the @moderators will reconsider their stance. BTW, were the QVC modifers elected or appointed? LOL

Your stance is interesting @Chrystaltree2. I think Civics is just as much about history as it is politics. Formal education has dropped the ball on history lately. Here is a way to pick it up. Just because we may disagree politically does not make me a lesser person, or you better, BTW.

I think civics is a code for politic as much as a thread titled " architecture of french cathedrals" is code for the discussion of the existence of God. I think any thread's original intent can always devolve into something else.  I've noticed that the moderators are good about either leaving gentle reminders to keep the discussion on track, or removing the comments that begin to derail it.

I like that we can now use color for our posts, but the lime green is a little hard to read, and hard on the eyes. Heart

That's not really a discussion -  how the electoral college works is straight fact and we can Google that from a good source and know we have the right information.   I see nothing to discuss that wouldn't get political.

Well, I just helped answer a question in the TV and Movies Forum about the name of an actress who appeared on a tv show last night, and the contributor could have gone to IMdB.com and figured that out herself, too.  The Electoral College was an example.  Civics is the sutdy of rights and duties of citizenship.  While one may be able to Google how the electoral college works, there is nothing wrong with discussing what it means to us as citizens.

One was a political topic and one was not.  Q should not allow anything about politics on these forums, including politics under the guise of civics.  There are a million other places where you can ask questions or discuss politicis.

@CalminHeart As I pointed out in my response previous to this one, any thread can start with one subject and end up being about another.  Civics is not politics.  And, did a moderator really give hearts to your comment?  That's...interesting.
