And, @dooBdoo, the thread wasn't created to be about deletion complaints at all - I stated that upfront - and that "inappropriate" covers *everything*, actually, in a nutshell. They get to say what they feel is inappropriate and that's very valid. My comment (as I've seen other threads about in the past) was essentially that it might be nicer, better, less odd-sounding or whatever, if they just said inappropriate as opposed to using a word or phrase that clearly didn't fit the situation. As you know, I'm not the first person to comment on that and I'm sure I won't be the last. I don't think a single person in this thread except one or two has taken any of it seriously.

I kinda wish you hadn't included the housebound thing, because now posters will be subjected to cracks about that ;-( (just joking - kinda). It'll become the new "You're just jealous!" of the forums.

For the record (not directed at you, dooB), I'm not housebound and can go out as I choose (had a great Victorian tea on Sunday, planning to go out for some wildlife photography as soon as we're done with current rain) but due to health issues I've had since early December, I often choose to stay home and be online. Nothing serious and won't last forever, but putting a crimp in my gallivanting currently.

Aw, @Moonchilde, I'm sorry you're having a "crimp in your gallivanting" right now.    (Love that phrase!   One of my relatives calls it a "hitch in my giddy-up!")    I never mention the personal connections to the forums as a pejorative -- not at all.   What I think is important is to remind everyone that not all of us have the same options regarding the "get a real life" dismissive comments we see sometimes (not to say @libbyannE meant to be dismissive, by the way).   If anyone thinks it's joke-worthy to mock or insult those who aren't as mobile as others...  yikes.    Hope they think twice before going down that road.    Also, I wanted to stress that some people -- even if they can and do get out and about -- have personal connections here, and that's a good thing.

I agree about the reasons given for removing or closing threads/posts.   I think the PTB could have thought more carefully before they decided to start providing reasons, and I also think it would help for the moderators to be more consistent.    It's helpful to know why the decisions are made, and in the long run "when we know better we do better."   (And if we posters "do better," the moderators' job is at least a wee bit easier.)

Thanks, @dooBdoo :-) I know *you* would never mean it as derogatory or pejorative, but others do.

"You need to get out more."

"You're must be/you're just jealous."

"Haterz!"

and etc. Can't think of any more off the top of my head. Very old, very tired tropes that just make me *eyeroll*

Hope you're doing well :-)

Hah!   Most of us know those trite retorts are a signal that the poster just ran out of substantial contributions to a thread.   If someone wants to use such nonsense and display their own shortcomings by doing so...  hey, go for it.    Says everything about them and nothing about the poster(s) they thought they were mocking.😉    Thanks for the good wishes.   I've had a really rotten week but I have high hopes things will get better.😊

Oops!   I forgot to address your first sentence!    Thanks.   I have a real and deep affection for most of the posters here, even when we have disagreements, and I would never try to denigrate or minimize the situation they might find themselves in.    It hurts my heart when others try to do that.    I think it can be easy in the internet age to stop thinking of fellow posters (or even the Q hosts, vendors, and moderators) as real flesh-and-blood human beings who have much more in common with us than "in difference."    I hope I never fall into that trap, but I know it could happen to me, too.

My favorite reason given by the moderators for deleting a post on occasion is "because."  I guess they just run out of reasons.

here are more reasons the mods give:

calling out another poster

controversial

challenges moderation

mean

off topic

rude

political

@Melania It gets very old but it is best to hit the ole ignore button. People like her and others on this baord thrive on responses to their nastiness. Give them the ole smile and make them wonder what you are reallyy thinking.Woman HappyHeart

I am doing very well, hope you are too. I had a bit of surgery a few weeks ago but coming along as expected, just getting bored not being able to do everything I need to do.Woman Sad

You're right on all counts. Sometimes though silence is acceptance with

that one. Ugh.

I hope you just let yourself heal and I know it's hard to not do what we want when we want. You can always come here and get distracted for awhile.

It's never boring, right?Heart
