I am having a horrible time finding fashionable sandals that have great cushioning and that hug the foot. Shoe manufacturers are really missing out on designing shoes for us older gals who have joint and/or foot issues and the $ to spend on great shoes!! I MUST have some cushion due to knee surgeries, and can't have a sandal that allows my foot to slide sideways off the insole! Any thong should hug the foot as the hosts all say, but where do we get a narrow cute sandal??? I'm tired of paying return postage to this site and others when a sandal is too wide. A medium width in a regular shoe is usually fine, so what's up with sandals? The cute little flats are great for the youngsters who need no support, but that doesn't work for us older gals !!!! Anyone else experienced this problem??

For the best sandals, go the 6pm dot com and search Birkenstock or Birki's, or Papillio or Betula. The sandals and clogs run wide. I wear 7 wide in all shoes/sandals --- but in Birkenstocks, I wear 37 narrow. The clogs are also very comfortable. This company is part of Zappos -- but much cheaper. Free shipping -- but u have to pay return shipping if ur not happy with the sandals. So worth it. I purchased around 15 pairs from this site and paid $45 to $55 (retail was $85 to $130 each). Prices on this site go up and down almost daily --- so watch the prices and then order. Most of the sandals that I purchased are "leather" --- they also carry non-leather (birko-flor, etc). Either way, you'll be very comfortable. Most of these shoes are on Zappos dot com -- u can check them out and read the reviews.

I just returned a pair of Born sandals to 6pm.com that were exactly what I was looking for style-wise, but they were too wide and allowed my foot to slip sideways. I just looked at the Papillio and Betula brand--they look like the Birkenstock, and those are WAAAY too wide on me, plus I don't like the look. I have tried Orthaheeel, and they are hard as a rock and hurt badly. I need a cushioned insole to absorb shock so there is no impact on the knees, and a snug fitting strap. Still looking. Thanks anyway.

Did you check footsmart.com? They cater to customers with foot/leg problems, so they might have what you're looking for. good luck!

If you need good support, you probably shouldn't be wearing a sandal. Even with a molded footbed, there isn't much support. Look for a Wolky sandal if you're sure you must have a sandal. They're expensive but have all the qualities you mention. You can see their styles at Zappos. It says to order up a size.

Zappos and Shoes dot com offer free returns. I'm sure there are other shoe sites that do, too.

It sounds like you really need to go to the shoe store and try on the shoes before you buy.

I like Crocs and Earth shoes. I only buy shoes on websites that don't charge for shipping either way.
