@Still Raining  Thank you!! What are Clodhoppers? I tried to google but nothing came up....

Sorry, it is merely a nickname for big, ugly shoes.

I have 4 bunions, with the outer ones being the worse.  I have to go up 1 size and 2 widths.  If your bunions are red when you remove your shoes, they are being irritated.

I also have some fused bones, which are causing one foot to shrink, and metatarsal pain.  And really high arches.

If you look around you can find good insets, but they will not fit into your usual.  Expect to pay at least $50.

I still have "good" shoes, but can not stand them for long.

For me New Balance last SL2 shoes with one of their met pads work well.

They're extremely light support.  For a real issue, they're not enough.

@SandGirl Take a look at Foot Smart dot com.  They have everything possible for the feet.  Just put your problem in the search bar.

I even get dress shoe inserts there which I put in sandles.Smiley Happy

Re: Shoe inserts for support / bunions

@SandGirl I have bunions and also developed Morton's Neuroma, so I'm always looking for solutions to make my feet comfortable. I've recently discovered (and absolutely love) silicone toe separators. I slip one between my big toe and the one next to it. It holds my big toe in proper position, where without it in, that big toe wants to drift toward the rest of the toes on that foot. The silicone is soft, but not so soft it can be flattened out. Wearing them has made a huge difference for me, so much that I don't get that awful pain running along the side of my foot toward that big toe joint. I buy these from Amazon.

I've tried shoes with known arch support, as well as inserts for my feet/shoes. Bunions often run in families...but also from ill fitting shoes with narrow toe boxes. I'm doubly cursed.

First and foremost I look for wide toe boxes so my toes can splay and not be cramped. Insoles by their very nature, take up depth/width in shoes, so best to have shoes where the insoles can be removed, or buy larger shoes. I prefer the toe separators over insoles. Combining the separators with a wide toe box shoe that has some arch support AND a stiffer sole provides the most comfort for me.

i think for all of us with foot issues, it's a whole lot of trial and error to find what makes our feet happy. Hopefully you'll find something that works for you.
