My grandmother owned a shoe store way back in the 1950s and 1960s (and maybe bought it before that time). I still remember as a child she had a big goose in her store advertising for Mother Goose shoes. I don’t know that it was my favorite brand but it made a big impression on me as a child.

In my youth, it's stunning I didn't break my neck w/ those high heels!
Remember the Candies brand? Wonder how many sprained ankles those caused.

I remember as a kid that there were many individual shoe stores in the malls. The ones that immediately come to mind are Buster Brown -- Baker's -- Thom McAn -- and Chandler's (the more upscale store.)

I loved Sasha of London shoes back in the day. I see they still make them, but my feet would not like them now.

You've made me reminisce about my favorites of the 70s. Yo-Yos. Not very stylish, but they were my first experience, with a shoe that truly cushioned the foot/heel, for my 12 hour shifts. Loved them!

We had two shoe stores in my home town. In the 1960s, pointy shoes were "it" for teens who liked to think they were avant garde and stylish...the pointier the better. I had seen a pair of ridiculously pointy shoes in one of our local shoe stores. I even saw someone wearing them on TV, the ultimate test for being "in" when I was a kid. My mother thought the shoes were ridiculous and refused to buy them For me, so I saved my allowance until I could buy them. Fortunately they were still available (probably unsellable to wiser females) and I bought them. I wore them proudly, thinking I was the most stylish teen in town.

When I was really little: Stride Right, as a teen Dr. Schols sandals and those wavy bottom shoes that I can't remember the name of ( I think they were Italian and it may have started with an F?) and as a college grad: Candy's pumps in every color! It's those pumps that probably contributed to my bunions!
