I have to start wearing custom orthotics. Smiley Sad I hate the thought of giving up my cute shoes, but I have two stress fractures caused by poor foot mechanics and my podiatrist is recommending custom orthotics.

Sooo... does anyone have any recommendations for dress shoes that can comfortably accomodate orthotics? I have looked online at zappos, but I prefer to hear from people what they have tried and liked for orthotics-friendly dress shoes. TIA!

@PreKteacher   Try Drew Orthodic Shop.  Drew makes extra-depth shoees with removable insoles so you can insert your own.  They're not high on the "cuteness" scale but maybe you'll see something tolerable.  They are very comfortable.  They give excellent support.

Try The Walking Company. Put "orthotics women" in search bar.

I wear Clark's with my orthotic. I usually do not have a problem. Some shoe brands have their own padding or removable insole inside and your foot might stick up...at first. Trick is, wear them first without the orthotic a few times. The shoe padding settles down and then your orthotics fit in the shoe comfortably. This recently happened to me when I ordered a pair of ballet flats.

With some brands you may have to remove the insoles the shoe comes with all together to fit your orthotic in.

A tip I have about getting used to wearing an orthotic is to wear it only a few hours a day for the first few weeks. They can be hard and uncomfortable and cause some pain if you start off wearing them the entire day.

I injured my foot in December.  A friend recommended Orthofeet.  Free shipping both ways, 60 day return policy.  Inserts to customize fit.  I'm happy with the shoes I bought from them.  Check out their website.

If you are still in a cast/walking boot and not have your foot casting made yet, remind yourself to ask then about size of Ortho insert.

If it is a gait issue, ask for a PT who specializes.

Also, a spontaneous fracture should set off the alarms about bone strength.  Perhaps a scan is in order.

Hope you heal well.

I feel your pain! I have had issues for years now.  I tried and tried to find dressier shoes and cute shoes which comfortably fit my orthotics but unfortunately this did not happen for me!  One of my orthotics is much thicker and larger than the other so this is probably the culprit.  Yours might not be so uneven, so you might be more fortunate in finding shoes to your liking.

I think the suggestions here are very good!  You wlll definitely have to be very careful with the type of foot wear that you choose from here on out.  When you get your orthotics, they will give you instructions as to how to wear them.  Yes, a gradual breaking in of them is needed.  They might even suggest to you the type of shoes you should wear at least for awhile.

I was told at first that I should be able to wear any good shoe with mine but that proved false.  I now wear sneakers basically all the time --- which I hate!  The only time I don't wear them is if I should be going some place where I will not be walking or standing much at all.  Best of luck and I hope you find what you are looking for!

I've worn my custom orthotics in Clarks, Vionics and the Asics running shoes that my podiatrist recommended.  All of them have removable insoles. I wouldn't try to insert orthotics in shoes that have non-removable insoles, personally.
