@Linda0215 wrote:So funny you posted about Birkenstock. I was just going to create a post. I've never had a pair of Birkenstocks so I decided to purchase the Madrid Big Buckle. I thought they'd be great for my feet and very comfortable. They are the hardest, must annoyingly uncomfortable things I've ever put on my feet. The card included with my purchase suggested to wear them a bit before going out. My question is, do they get better, because I'm about to give up on them. The sole is so hard to stand on. I can't imagine wearing these all day.
I just received my second pair of the Arizona style Birkenstocks. I had ordered the first pair in a narrow width and found them too narrow so i ordered the regular width.
Yes, the soles are hard when you first wear them but they eventually conform to your feet and supposedly get more comfortable. I'm not there yet but they seem to be getting better. The only issue I still have is with the toe bar. I hope that gets better because it's still extremely uncomfortable.
They suggest only wearing them around the house for a couple of hours a day until you get used to them.
Good luck!

@Texasmouse Thank you so much! I have been trying to wear them around the house lately and they do seem slightly better. Or maybe I'm just getting used to them. I don't know, but I really like them and hopefully they'll be ready to wear soon. Fingers crossed!

I have a closet full of Birks and I find the real leather ones take longer for them to adjust to my feet. I love their real leather sneekers.

Okay, thank you. Good to know. I was beginning to think I had overly sensitive feet or something! 😂

@Linda0215 @Texasmouse It does take a little while to break in the Birk's with the original soles. I have about 20 pairs and started buying them when QVC sold them.
If the straps are leather and the edge irritates your feet, it helps to wear a sock as you are breaking them in. Also the cork sole does mold to your foot after breaking in. Socks may make that more comfortable too, for the soles of your feet. Then you can wear them outside without socks.
When I started buying Birkenstocks, of course I was younger and it did not hurt my feet at all to break them in.
As we age, we lose some of the padding on our feet and they are more sensitive. I need more padding in all shoes for comfort now. I only buy the Birkenstocks with the soft footbed
and they are comfortable right out of the box. No breaking in is
needed. Also, I only buy the ones with suede straps. They are so soft and comfortable. Sometimes they cost a little more in suede, but they are worth it.
@Texasmouse The socks may help you too. I have found that if the toe bar is uncomfortable, the size may be wrong. It should be right under the base of your toes. It should not press on toes or ball of your foot.

@Enufstuff thanks for the tips! Maybe I'll try the soft footbed ones next.
The suede straps do look awfully soft and comfy. 🙂
