However, after using a couple of weeks, the black leather at the top of the one inside pocket has pulled away from the pocket. The black leather still has the stitching, but the pocket itself frayed and pulled away from the leather (I hope this makes sense). I do really like this bag. The snap closure is a plus, in my opinion. Would like to order the natural ostrich, but leery now with all the quotes about the 'smearing'.
My daughter received one that was on waitlist yesterday and had the smear marks ALL OVER IT and a few white spots in places...........beautiful purse but who can keep it with those defects from the start?
Those are the same problems I had with my bag. There were a few of the spots that were painted with HUGE dots (think blemish on a teenage face), and so I'm waiting to see a post on this board about someone getting that baby as a waistlist fulfillment item.
On the plus side, though, I just purchased a natural ostrich Roma 2 from eBay, and it is perfect. It came from a private individual, (not one of those sellers who buys pallets of damaged and excess inventory). I actually like the stiffer leather because doesn't fold all the way into a trapezoid shape and maintains the "pouf" at the bottom that I prefer.

Thanks for all the replies. I called customer service and they told me to return it and she reordered another for me at the TSV price. She said that they need to see the issue so I taped sticky notes everywhere there was a smear. Hopefully the next one will be okay.

Thanks for this posting. I got the Natural Ostrich and Blush when they were TSV's. Mine looked fine but after reading these posts, I decided to take a closer look. I didn't find streaks or smears, just looks like typical variations on the hide that you would expect from Ostrich, I suppose. I am sorry to hear that others are having issues. Hope CS can help and send the perfect replacement (unless you are returning it).

Can anyone post a picture of the smears? I am just curious. Thanks.

The smears and white shadowing in the hide are due to improper tanning and hurried painting of the ostrich "quill points." These bags are made of leather that is embossed, tanned, painted, and then glazed to make it look like ostrich. Dooney does the same thing, but the end product of their efforts to turn cowhide into something that looks like ostrich seems to be higher quality.
Personally, I would have loved to see the natural ostrich merely embossed, tanned, and then glazed. I think that would have looked just fine.

It is I uniform color and also has been finished with a glossier surface. Just divine. If I could just afford to spend that much on bags, I would just buy that one and wear it with everything. But even adding up all my bags over the past few years, I have only spent about half, that much.

Received natural ostrich today. It is not as stiff as I thought it would be. There is some minor bleeding from the red dye in various areas....I don't think anyone else will notice it, but I would return the bag if the bleeding was really obvious because it would cheapen the look. I used Coach moisturizer on it today.....a slight amount of the dye came off on the rag but nothing too concerning. It did not smear. Going to keep it for a few weeks to see how it holds up. May be a keeper. The black is my fav....but I had to return the black and the blush bags I received due to very strong chemical smells.

I'm taking my Natural Ostrich out tomorrow for the first time. I got the extra large Chameleon purse organizer in the mail today (thanks to the lady on the forum who recommended it), and I put it in the bag, along with the stuff I need, including a file folder with some documents. I'll be carrying the bag as a wide tote to accommodate everything. I didn't have a large tote, so this works well for me.
