I prefer Clarks, or Clarks Vionics, Earth Brand,or Sketchers, especially the Go Walk brand.

I always wear some type of Clarks or Earth Brand for being on my feet often and for long hours.

The Earth Brand item #A260575 is a nice shoe for everyday wear and has no laces and is in suede.  It is also on sale for about $ 40.00 I think. Love it ! Just received mine in the coral color. Soo comfy !!!!

Thanks for allthe replies.  I purchased New Balance 813  in black.  Felt great in the store...walked 2 miles and no go,they hurt.  Taking them back.  Anyone have those 813's?

The higher the number on the shoe, the better support.

I could never find a pair of New Balance that felt good on my feet after awhile. My hubby kept buying me Nike saying they were 'good shoes' and that's what HE likes....not for me!!

I love the Sketchers Go Walk 3's and Clarks for times I want a little dressier shoe.

Agree with both of these brands.  I always buy a half size up, too.  HTH (Asics and Brooks)

Sounds like you may need something beyond shock absorbtion and cushioning offered in sports shoes.

Have you tried over the counter Heel liners?: Heel liners, sometimes called heel pads or heel cups, provide extra cushioning in the heel region. They may be especially useful for people who have foot pain caused by age-related thinning of the heels' natural fat pads.

If you are in pain, consider getting fitted for orthotics: are molded to fit each individual foot, so you can be sure that your orthotics fit and do what they're supposed to do.  Insurance often helps pay for prescription orthotics.

New Balance is my favorite sports brand (860) and SAS (San Antonio Shoes) is my favorite casual shoe brand (anti-slip lace-up shoes)!
