@Krimpette

Same here.  DH and I have been getting the cut upo spears of watermelon for the last few weeks and thankfully it has been great!  Cutting up a whole watermelon is tedious and often the watermelon does not turn out to be that great.  So, even though it is often a bit more expensive, so far it has been worth it!

@wagirl .  This sounds good.  I will try it.  Usually I put my watermelon in my vitamix with water and cucumbers.  These are the perfect drinks  for these hot summer days.  The next three days in New York are going to be extremely hot.  This will be  healthy and refreshing.  Stay cool everybody!!!

Freeze some for a slushy.

We love watermelon. I get the quarter melon and cut it into chunks at home. But pre-cut melon, slices and chunks, is available for those who can't do the slicing or who simply want the convenience of pre-cut fruit or maybe don't want to deal with the mess. It's a nice option.

Re: watermelon juice

[ Edited ]

My father in law raised watermelon, so, my husband grew up helping with that as a teenager. Back then (1950's & 60's), he said they would cut one open on a picnic table in the backyard and just eat the middle out and g throw the rest away. Big waste in my opinion, but, like he said, watermelons were about 50 cents each back then.

Well, fast forward to 2025 where watermelons are anywhere from $10.00 - $20.00, depending on size, and he still eats watermelon that way!

Watermelon has been really good and sweet this summer...and affordable.

When I was in VietNam, they served watermelon drinks that were cool and refreshing.

They put watermelon and ice cubes in a blender....yummy.  I could go for one now, but my husband ate every bit of a whole watermelon I cut up and left none for me.

Speaking of watermelon juice-----there is an ice cream shop near us, that makes their own ice cream and also dairy free flavors too. DD and I stopped in and she got a watermelon mint sorbet that was the essence of summertime!! So good!! Am thinking--why not get a mint tea and make ice tea from it and then add watermelon juice to it?? Over ice in a tall glass----sounds delicious!!!

We have been getting whole watermelons all summer.  All were great except one.  We eat it almost daily.  If I have a quarter or so, not eaten in several days, I blend the last bit.  So good, so refreshing.  I might have to try mixing it with iced tea or crystal light lemonade, freeze it and make slushies.  Yum.
