Re: What to make when you have a Bumper Crop of Strawberries? Strawberry Angel Food Dessert, of cour

[ Edited ]

This is a recipe I make every year in strawberry season.  All of my relatives and friends love it.  Everyone seems to enjoy the salty-sweet taste of the dessert.

Recipe – Strawberry Pretzel Dessert

2 cups crushed pretzels

1/3 cup melted butter

2 tbsp. sugar

8 oz. cream cheese, softened

1 cup (or ¾ cup if preferred) sugar

8 oz. cool whip

2  3 oz. pkgs. strawberry jello

2 cups boiling water

16 oz. fresh strawberries (or frozen, thawed)

4 oz. cream cheese/cool whip mixture --- spread over chilled dessert

Directions:

Combine pretzels, butter and sugar in bowl.  Mix well.  Press into 9x13” baking dish.  Bake at 350 for 8 min.  Cool to room temp.

Combine 8 oz. cream cheese and 1 cup sugar in bowl, mix well.

Fold in cool whip.  Spread over cooled pretzel layer.  Reserve apx. 4 oz. for top layer.  Chill in refrigerator.

Dissolve jello in boiling water.  Stir in sliced berries.  Pour over chilled cream cheese layer.  Chill in refrigerator several hours until set.  Spread remaining cream cheese/cool whip mixture (apx. 4 oz.) over the top.

*** Note:  Excellent dessert for summer picnic or party.  Blueberries, raspberries or other fruit may be substituted for strawberries.
