I have never had this smoked sausage in beer and kraut. I bet it has a ton of flavor.

Yes, it does.  Put it in the slow cooker for a few hours on low so the beer and kraut flavors really work their way into the sausage.   Serve with something bland like egg noodles or potatoes (mashed or boiled) ... and have some honey mustard on the side.  I like to have some sour dough bread available to dip in the "juice."

I have eaten pork and kraut every year for my entire life.  I would like to try this, how much beer do you add and just regular smoked sausage?  TIA

Scalloped potatoes are so good. What is a Russian tea cake?

The same as Mexican Wedding Cake cookies but they don't have any nuts...they're melt in your mouth good. Happy New Year!

I don't keep sugar around the house EXCEPT to purchase a box every year or two of individual sugar packets, like you see provided  on tables in restaurants.

We use them for guests who might want  sugar in coffee, but I personally use them exclusively as a packet or two for highly acidic  tomato sauce in pasta dishes or anything else that might benefit from a hint of sweetener.

@novamc1  Isn't is amazing how so little sugar can affect the taste so much?

Re: What is on your menu for New Year's Day?

Oh, I thought it was a law or sumthin', as, in my life, every year must begin with sauerkraut.   Woman Happy

I simmer mine with caraway seed, chopped apples (peel included) and Kielbasa until the apples have disintegrated and imparted their sweetness into the kraut. I know it's ready when the cabbage has turned a very light brownish beige color.  Sides will be mashed potatoes, warm rye bread and Riesling.  Dessert will be warm gingerbread with the option of applesauce or whipped cream.

It's one of my favorite meals, and I have it only on New Year's Day.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

Daddy was Irish and we had so many superstitions about the New Year. One of them was about eating pork. (It was Good Luck)
