@Sooner   I have heard of arm roast, bet they are the same as english roast.  Chuck roasts were used to make vegetable soup - very delicious!  Making me hungry as we only had Tuna Noodle Helper for summer tonight!

@KathyM23 About supper last night, we had an old old quick supper that my mother and I invented LONG ago when we first discovered Ramen noodles!

We take tomatoes (fresh or canned diced ones) and cut up zucchini or yellow squash in bite sized chunks and a little onion.  We saute the squash and onion, throw in the tomatoes and add a little water and let that simmer a few minutes then at the last the Ramen noodles, cook, then usually stir in the flavor packet.

One packet of Ramen is enough for two servings!  It's good, quick, cheap and we get lots of veggies!  It's when you have sandwiches for lunch and that night have veggies you need to cook . . . ha ha.   Lots of veggies work but this version is our favorite.

I just put a sirloin tip roast in the crockpot. I mix a pkg. of dry Italian salad dressing, a pkg. of dry Ranch salad dressing, and a pkg. of Brown Gravy mix in water and pour over the roast.

I'm not sure if you cooked your roast on high or low, but rump roasts need to be cooked low and slow...at least 8 hours and 10 is even better.  Try this recipe next time...

A few years ago I tried a McCormick's pot roast seasoning packet.  The beef stew one also works, the pork one even works on beef.  So any cut of beef, any seasoning packet, a few vegetables and I'm in business.  There are many brands of these packets on the market, Crockery Gourmet is another good one.

And sooner, those roasts your mother made sound like pot roasts to me.

I've only cooked a rump roast a couple of times and that was years ago.  I'm sure I didn't cook it properly for one thing but I just never thought it had a lot of flavor.  I stick with a plain ole chuck roast for most everything now.

We like to put it on the smoker or use it to make jerky.

We cook it where it's really pink & slice thin to eat. We like it on Hawaiian Sweet rolls with some Au Jus. Yum!!!

I have also used it to make beef stew.

My mom used to make rump roast it was so good.

I used to love a roast, with potatoes, carrots....not so much lately, but I know that I will buy another one, one of these days and try again!

@Mom2Dogs I had always used that mushroom recipe with rump roasts.  That recipe is my DIL's father's most favorite dish in the universe!!!

I had never done a rump roast ANY other way.  Now I never will do them plain again!!!Smiley Happy

@Mom2Dogs Just saw your post, sorry.

What I added to the rump roast was a recipe I use for the same roast in the oven which was delicious, but could have been more tender.

I never realized rump roasts aren't really flavorful because I always did the mushroom soup recipe.  I won't do that again.

Now barbecue sauce and onions might be different!Smiley Happy

@Mom2Dogs Add the Liptons Onion Soup mix, and (if you wish), a tsp of thyme.
