I cooked salmon in my arifryer the other night for dinner---and WOW--it was amazing!! -Next time I will reduce the time by a minute --think it was just a touch over cooked--but was really good anyway. I used OO on it then just salt and pepper and little paprika. Think that is how I will cook it from now on. I got a new airfryer cookbook and have been trying out a few things--next up--air roasted chick peas--

If you have a Trader Joe's pick up their salmon seasoning. It is the bomb.

Do you get it with skin on? Do you cook it directly on air fryer basket?

I like to marinate mine. I tried it in the AF, but prefer baking it. The cleanup is easier and I felt the AF version was a little dry. I line my baking pan with aluminum foil and cook it marinade and all with pineapple tidbits swimming in the marinade. For cleanup, I just remove the aluminum foil, skin and marinade included, and throw away.

I'm not the OP, but I spray or brush my air fryer basket with olive oil and then cook fish directly on it. If there's skin on it, I cook it skin side down. Usually the skin will just peel off when I remove it from the basket, but I prefer salmon more well done than most so that could be a product of overcooking it.

BTW an air fryer is exactly the same thing as a toaster oven that has a convection fan. My Breville that I bought from QVC is a toaster oven with a convection fan that does exactly what my air fryer does, so I have given away the air fryer to free up my countertop.

I do similar in oven or on the grill. Was curious about airfryer as @wagirl has mentioned she uses it for meat. I have not had much h success cooking any meat but chicken in my airfryer.

Don't think it's a matter of overcooking ... and I actually like how the skin sticks so I can just slide the salmon off and onto the plate. Thanks for sharing your method.

@kate2357 a lot of people use them for meat. I really haven't tried except for the salmon once since I'm comfortable with my methods with meat. I like to grill steaks and burgers, but when we had dinner at my daughter's she sears the steaks and then cooks them in the oven and they are quite good.
As far as an air fryer and a convection oven being eactly the same, as another poster mentioned, the concept is the same, but the results may not be exactly the same depending on the wattage of the convection oven. The reason air fryer ovens are not very large is because the wattage required to get the same result as an air fryer is more. The air fryers crisp by the movement of air around the food. More hot air movement, more crisp. It takes more power to move the air the same amount in a larger area.
But, if you get similar results and are happy with them, then it's a win.

We eat salmon twice a week or more, and I always air fry it. We like ours blackened, so I iberally sprinkle with cajun seasoning. It's so good.
@kate2357 The only steak I care for is filet mignon. I make that in the air fryer and it comes out beautifully. We like ours medium/rare so I'm careful not to overcook.
I do chicken in there as well. Once you get used to making meats and fish in it, you'll realize just how easy it is.
