Ever have one?  I did this past weekend.  Our church has a yearly Chili Contest, the winner gets a wooden spoon with Chili Champ written on it, we have fun.  Anyway,  we also make cornbread to go with it.  I decided to make a different cornbread from my tried and true.

I found a recipe that sounded good, moist and with a little zing to it (not heat type).  It had milk, sour cream, shredded cheese, and a cup of beer for the zing.

It was awful, no taste, dry and just plain yuck.  I was so disappointed.  Not earth shattering for sure but what a bummer.

Sorry it didn't go well, I've had this happen to me before.  There is nothing more disappointing than working hard on a new recipe and have it not be enjoyable and worth the effort.

Ahh!  Smiley Sad  There might be a certain kind of beer you cook with, I wouldn't know!

I once made a beer bread in the bread machine. It was the yukiest thing I ever tasted! (Apart from my SIL's oyster stuffing one year!)

@Imaoldhippie that's too bad!  I love trying new recipes.  My hubby always says 'stick to the staples'.   LOL

this past summer I tried making a tomato pie.  It was a waste of my good tomatoes.  It came out as a messy goo of cheese, mayo and tomato, in a pie crust.

A resounding YES----and too many times, I might add. that is why I only make a half recipe--to try it out and if it tanks--well I only throw out half the amount. Woman Frustrated

I tried one of Jill Baur's dessert recipes.  It had brownie mix and hot fudge sauce in it.  Frankly, it tasted worse than if I just made the brownie mix as is.

My Mom hated to cook, so I certainly did not learn anything from her.  By the time I was out of the house, my parents were eating dinner out 6 nights of the week.

I do cook some, but I have also tried recipes that never turn out right, and they never look like the photo of the item, if there is a photo with the recipe.

I only try simple things.  If there are too many ingredients or it calls for something I don't like, I pass on it all together.

We recently cleaned out our cupboard that has all our cookbooks and lose recipes pages.  I threw a lot of it out (not the books).  I kept so much that I never looked at or tried.

I always hoped my husband would turn into a handyman.  And I am sure he hoped I would become a fantastic cook.  We were both delusional!

@Knit-Chick

If you make the tomato pie again, I suggest using a loaf of ciabatta bread cut lengthwise and slightly matted down as your " Base ".  Lightly spray olive oil on it, bakes for 10 mins until it crusts. Then add your toppings and finish in the oven.

This should eliminate the gooey mess you described.

@Harpa Thanks for the laugh, my SIL one year made oyster dressing and that was many years ago, but it was the worst food I think I have ever ate and I am not a picky eater and will eat what I don't like (LOL) but I had to spit that dressing out and will never forget how bad it was.  Thanks for the bad memory!!! LOL

These are so funny. I can relate and also to @Puppy Lips, the non cook and unhandyman lol!

At my first dinner with my husband's family, my contribution was what I thought would be a healthy addition to this New England family of meat and potatoes etc.

So I made what I thought would be a delightful green noodle casserole. You know green more healthy type noodle.

(learned later that this family never ate casseroles!).

After that I was always and only asked to bring the sodas to family meals lol!
