Oh I love BCP.  But it has to be made from scratch.  That's why I never make it.   Smiley Wink

Re: Really need a great Cake Recipe

This is like Trisha Yearwood’s recipe, but her recipe only lists 1/2 tsp baking powder. I wonder how different one tsp would make it.

@Bridgegal  In a pinch, mother used a yellow cake mix for the one layer, jello pudding for the middle, and made a chocolate glaze.  I LOVE that and it is something you almost never see on a menu!  That's sad!

Here ya go.  This one has won awards.  I learned the value of a Kitchen Aid mixer when I started making 6 of these every Christmas for gifts.

Chocolate Pound Cake

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

1 C milk

5 Large eggs

2 Sticks butter, softened  (I use Land O Lakes, massive difference).

½ C Shortening

3 C sifted plain flour (I use White Lily)

3 C Sugar

½ C cocoa

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp.Baking powder

1 tsp vanilla

Pinch salt

Greased and floured tube pan

Directions:

Cream butter and shortening in a mixer.

Slowly mix in sugar.

Add eggs one at a time, beating together.

Sift together sifted flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt.

Add dry ingredients alternately with milk beating each in.

HAND stir in vanilla.

Pour into well greased and floured tube pan.

Bake  in middle of the oven at 350 degrees for 1 hr.

If the top is browning, cover with foil.

*Optional icing (I don't).

Heat 3 TBSP. cocoa,

         6 TBSP. milk

1 stick butter to boiling point, stirring constantly.

Add one box confectioners sugar.

I have another, kind of one bowl chocolate cake that is done in a 9 x 13 with cocoa frosting.  That one is fablious.  It's SO good it will make your teeth itch.

@ECBG

Thank you for sharing.

It sounds like a yummy recipe. I have never had chocolate pound cake.

It has baking powder listed twice. Is one of those suppose to be baking soda???

Is the tube pan you use a bundt pan?

Also wondering what your 1 bowl chocolate cake is? LOL!!!

@ECBG

Still wondering about the baking powder listed twice in the recipe?

Is the tube pan a bundt pan?

Thanks

Re: Really need a great Cake Recipe

@Sooner - Oh, I just love BCP - haven't had it in years - probably before my Mom got sick and passed. I haven't even thought about it - Thanks for the reminder.

Re: Really need a great Cake Recipe

@turquoise blue - If she likes Red Velvet that is what I would go with - made from scratch, of course. Definitely cream cheese icing.

Or, make a coconut cake - they are so good.

Whatever you make, I'm sure she will love and realize you made it from your heart.
