Oh @momtochloe

How lovely!  My sis was here this week to work and pretty much emptied Hobby Lobby!  She has no store near her in NJ.

She got the most lovely sprays, and inserts for her decorations!  She had to ship the box home since she flew!  LOL

I forbid myself to buy anything for the house but I SO wanted to make a trip to see all the beautiful things they have out already!

Oh @RespectLife I am just obsessed with that flocked tree as for me it so looks like fresh fallen snow and then those lights . . . oy . . . I would never have a need to have one of those in my house but I find it just gorgeous . . . good heavens I haven't been to Hobby Lobby in a very long time but they have such lovely pieces . . . that's hiliarious that your sister shipped things home, what a great idea . . . tee hee!

@momtochloe

She came w/ a HUGE empty suitcase.  I thought she was moving back home!  LOL

By time she hit the Niagara Falls Outlet...it was full and prolly overweight!  Hobby Lobby was the icing on her shopping cake.

She is fairly remote in southern NJ and going into Philly is NOT a welcomed field trip!  She can go over the bridge to Delaware, which has no sales tax...but it costs $10 to go over the bridges!

Works out all the same I suppose paying for UPS!

That's exactly what I was thinking...fresh fallen snow!

Happy Friday!  I only slept 3 hours last night but I managed to put in a full productive 8 hours and get all my meetings in and a lot of stuff done.

Lawdy!

So glad it's the weekend.

I'm so glad I didn't commit to our community halloween party tonight. I had a feeling when my calendar was filling  up that I wouldn't be able to help.

Happy Friday, Kitchenettes!

I feel like a stranger here lately!   I so look forward to reading the posts of the day even if it is late or maybe too late to post myself.

@momtochloe

We have early voting downstate as well but I neglected to go today; was part of my agenda then took off the opposite direction this morning, more concerned about what goodies I could get at Bath and Body Works 50% off sale of fall items!   Will tell anyone to purchase on line rather than their local stores because if your local store is like ours, it looks like a band of locusts hit it!  I love the Leaves, Autumn and Sweater Weather candles, wallflowers, etc.  l did score 2 small candles in sweater weather and I picked up a couple of Autumn wallflower bulbs but there sure wasn't much left.   Hopefully Monday I will get to vote and get it over.  I keep telling those that call, I am voting for the person who least annoys me with phone calls, mail and t.v. commercials!  LOL!

Halloween is a  big deal around here but I am not "doing" trick or treat.  I was accosted at my front door a couple of years ago and didn't do the trick or treat last year and decided not to do it this year.  I picked an area church that did trunk or treat and donated a ton of candy to them for that event.  As much as I enjoy this season and miss it, I am not going to become a victim in my own house because of it.  We went to our town's Halloween parade last night and will go to two parades tomorrow morning at nearby towns.  It is small town U.S.A. and I love it.  One parade starts at 10:30 and the other is actually an afternoon parade starting about 1.  We will get a breakfast pizza-bacon and egg from Casey's for our lunch to eat off the tailgate of our truck while waiting for the second parade to start.  Can't be more "Mayberry" than this!

@VaBelle35

I really don't know what you employer would do without you.   You seem to be the glue that holds this place together.  I'm glad you get to work from home as often as you do.

@RespectLife

Is there any time frame that you have that your new home will be ready?   I have never built a house; DH did once and said never again.  I know what a headache it was just trying to decide on countertops for our kitchen that they never came to fruition.  Can't imagine the overwhelming task it would be to decide on bathroom fixtures, countertops, appliances, etc. in a new home.  Certainly for the Young and Restless as I am too old to wrap my mind around it!  Wish we could see photos of the entire process!

@ChiliPepper

I am sure you will spend the weekend being a Mom Taxi again but know you would not have it any other way!   You are such an inspiration and am so glad you are in the health and have the energy to do what you do.  Chili Jr. is truly blessed.

@Writer with Flair

How are you and Mr. Writer feeling?  We don't seem to see you here much anymore and sure miss your comments and recipes!  What is happening in your neck of the woods?

@novamc1

I agree, I think you might be in the process of moving.  I am praying things smooth out for you in all of this.  I am not strong enough to go thru what you have.   I'm not sure you realize all the obstacles you have had but am sure when the dust settles, you are going to reflect back and wonder how you made it.  You're my hero!

@adoreqvc

I haven't seen much of you here but it may be me.  I haven't had much time here lately.  Hope you and dear Phillip are getting stronger with each passing day.  Please check in when you can.  Those of us here on the soup thread are concerned about you both.

It's late and time for me to hit the sack.  Hope all sleep peacefully and have a safe weekend!

Good morning everyone.

It's another sunny but chilly morning here today. But have no fear, it will be 80 degrees and sunny tomorrow.  Glad I haven't turned on the heat yet.  LOL

I'm so glad we are getting these glorious weekends.  They are good for the soul.

I need to go to Wegmans this morning so that I can get some cooking done tonight.

I should probably get dressed soon in order to do that.

I am looking at my work calendar and I don't know when I am goign to be able to get back to the gym. I am really missing my cycle class.  I should be able to go next Friday on my day off.

@mustang66lady I feel so relieved that I voted and don't have to think about it anymore . . . gah!

I bought a couple of bags of candy for Halloween and am stalking the weather forecasts as to whether I need to go buy more.  I'll make that final call on Monday but I think I should be good (please know I am still scarred from a Halloween about a decade ago where we had plenty of candy (I thought) but there was some kind of kid explosion in the neighborhood and I ended up handing out my bags of snacks that I had on hand for my lunches . . . Smiley Happy).

As for B&BW, I have permanently banned myself from that place as I stocked up on so many candles I don't think I will ever be able to burn all of them . . . goodness that place is addictive!  I love the Balsam scent for around Christmas but my favorite is their Marshmellow Fireside . . . I could burn that all year round . . . Smiley Happy

@Writer with Flair

Here are my two French Toast recipes.  The first is my favorite, but I don't use the powdered sugar.  As for the second, I don't think I've ever used low-fat milk in ANYTHING!

BROILER FRENCH TOAST

1/4 cup soft butter

4 eggs

1-1/3 cups evaporated milk

1/2 teaspoon salt

8 slices white bread (1/2 to 3/4 inch thick)

Melted butter (1/4 cup)

Confectioners sugar, if desired

Spread 2 TB soft butter over bottom of each of two 9x2-inch pans. Beat eggs with evaporated milk and salt until well blended. Pour half the egg mixture into each pan. Place 4 bread slices side by side in egg mixture.

In preheated broiler, place pans about 4 inches from heat; broil until golden, about 3 minutes. Watch closely. Remove and turn slices over. Broil on other side until golden.

-----

EASY ORANGE FRENCH TOAST

  6 eggs

1/2 cup orange juice

1/4 cup low‑fat milk

1/3 cup sugar

  1 TB grated orange peel

1/2 tsp vanilla

1/4 tsp nutmeg

  8 slices day‑old raisin bread

In medium bowl, beat together eggs, orange juice, milk, sugar, orange peel, vanilla, and nutmeg until well blended. Place bread in single layer in 13x9x2" pan. Pour egg mixture over bread. Let soak, turning once, until most of liquid is absorbed, about 5 minutes. Bake at 375 until puffed and brown, about 20 minutes.

I'm making this today:

Hard Cider Braised Lamb Shanks:

This is one I've made several times.  I puree the sauce at the end and it makes a really nice thick sauce with the apples and shallots.
