Oh my grazing cats!  That football is a hoot!

If I can ever scare up more than 2 ppl to watch football with me...I am SO making that!

Thanks!

@RespectLife

Well, we would never eat that much dip either so I figured I would 1/2 or 1/4 the recipe & just make a mini football.

It's way too cute not to make. I even get DD to watch with me during Super Bowl, mostly for the food & commercials though LOL!!!

@ChiliPepper

I'm sure I can make a mini version!

Speaking of football commercials....

Have you guys seen the new State Farm commercial w/ Aaron Rogers and Clay Matthews and the fly?

It is hysterical!  It is Super Bowl worthy!

@RespectLife

No, I haven't seen that one. I'll have to watch for it.

I do LOVE the Manning brothers commercials. He cracks me up in his jammies calling his brother LOL!!!

The Manning brother commercials are hilarious, the one with Peyton standing in line buying groceries and then saying "I have a coupon for that" gets me every single time . . . Smiley Happy

Dear Kitchenettes,

This is just one of many recipes I found online for making your own infused vinegar.

If I were making a tarragon vinegar, I would lose the garlic and possibly the lemon.

To whomever found the tarragon vinegar at the WM super store, could you look at the list of ingredients and see what they put in theres and report back to us?

Watch out for reactive implements, storage containers, etc. when you are using vinegar.

Thanks.

Do-it-Yourself: Infused Vinegar

Herb- and fruit-infused vinegars are easy (and economical) to make at home, and they add fresh, bold flavors to salad dressings. They also make a wonderful gift. Read on for our recipes and tips.

Garlic-Herb Vinegar

1 1/2 cups fresh basil leaves or thyme, tarragon or rosemary sprigs

4 cups white wine or Champagne vinegar

1 clove garlic, thinly sliced

2 lemon zest strips, each 1 inch wide and 2 inches long

Have ready a clean, large nonreactive bowl.

Thoroughly rinse the basil leaves or herb sprigs and then pat dry with paper towels. Rough chop the leaves (leave sprigs whole). In a nonreactive saucepan over low heat, warm the vinegar until hot but not yet simmering; do not let it boil. Remove from the heat. Place the basil, garlic and lemon zest in the bowl. Pour in the hot vinegar and stir to combine. Set aside to cool. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2-4 weeks; the longer the vinegar stands, the stronger the flavors will be. Gently stir the vinegar every few days to blend the flavors.

Have ready hot, sterilized bottles.

Strain the vinegar through a fine-mesh sieve and then through a coffee filter. Using a funnel, pour the filtered vinegar into the bottles. Cover tightly and store at room temperature for up to 2 months. Makes 2 one-pint bottles.

@Writer with Flair I have Heinz's version of tarragon vinegar and these are the ingredients on their label:

Distilled white vinegar

Malt vinegar

Spice oil (tarragon)

Diluted with water to 5% acidity

And please know I do not have a clue as to what any of the above means . . . Smiley Sad

I agree!!!

Pepperoni Pizza Football Cheese Ball

This Pepperoni Pizza Football Cheese Ball is my new favorite thing! Super easy to make and a total showstopper! Make this for your next game day celebration and watch the crowd go wild!

Serves: 16 servings

Ingredients
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 8 oz finely shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 2 5 oz bags mini pepperoni slices, divided
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 4 oz jar diced pimientos, drained and patted dry

Instructions
  1. Beat the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Beat in the Italian seasoning, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
  2. Mix in half of the pepperoni slices, green onions, bacon, and pimientos.
  3. Line a small bowl with plastic wrap. Spoon cheese mixture into bowl. Press mixture into bowl so that it takes on the shape of the bowl. Use the ends of the plastic wrap to wrap up the cheeseball firmly. Transfer the wrapped cheese ball to a cutting board and use your hands to shape it into a football.
  4. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours and up to 48 hours.
  5. Remove the cheese ball from the fridge and cover with remaining pepperoni, pressing gently to adhere.
  6. Serve with pretzels, bread sticks, crackers, and veggies.

Looks like Pepperoni Pizza Cheeseballs for the Kitchenettes this Sunday!  Also looks like the recipe would be easy to half except I probably wouldn't half the bacon, because well, BACON!

The latest thing my family has been devouring is homemade pimento cheese!   From what I have determined, Price's pimento cheese is the only store bought version that is slightly acceptable.  We can't get it in our area and what we can get is awful!  Couldn't imagine why everyone made such a fuss until I made my own.  What rock have I been under all my life?!   Do any of you have a recipe you would like to share?  Will share mine if anyone is interested!

Dear Mustang,

My husband LOVES pimento cheese.  Please do post your recipe for it.

I had an aunt who used to make it when I was a child.  She used Dromedary Brand pimentos.

                                Dromendary Diced Pimientos, 4 oz

I remember thinking that pimento cheese was exotic and special (like cream cheese and olives)--especially when you put it on super soft white bread and cut the crusts off.

Regarding the posts a while back about catsup/ketchup:  All the men in my husband's family adore it.  If any of them are ever in a medical situation requiring a blood transfusion and no blood is readily available, they may be able to use catsup/ketchup instead.

Speaking of love of condiments, I once worked with a man who absolutely adored Texas Pete Hot Sauce--so much so that he carried a bottle on his person at all times so he would never be without.   No kidding.

It was amazing the copious amounts of this condiment that this man ingested.  That much hot sauce would make scorched earth out of anybody else's tongue surface.

Once, I asked him about his heavy use of this hot sauce.  He theorized that he had killed off a lot of his taste buds with the TPHS (thus needing more to reach the remaining ones) . . . or . . . his taste buds had developed sort of an tolerance to the TPHS, so it so it took more to satisfy them.

              originalhotsauce6ozoriginalhotsauce6ozoriginalhotsauce6oz

This man had sort of a florid complexion (from all that hot sauce, perhaps?) but he never seemed to get sick, so I guess the hot sauce killed off any bacteria or virus in his body before it could ever take hold.  All's well that ends well, I guess.

YES, that's it!  I love it!  Esp. w/ Clay asking w/ his mouth full..."Well, did ya get it??"

I was getting really tired of the SF, Rogers Double Check Guy commercials.  This is SO much better.

State F had one similar w/ two ppl working outside.  The wife yanks the hose to get it loose and everything just crashes around her into the window.  tee hee

I haven't seen the coupon one yet, @momtochloe  but the new one w/ Peyton on the park bench and the old guy telling him to work as long as he can is a hoot too!
