Well, I finally decided to take pulled pork to the family reunion which is this coming Sunday.

The most popular recipe on allrecipes (over 3,000 reviews) calls for a can of root beer, barbecue sauce (I will be using Sweet Baby Ray's) and pork tenderloin.

Has anyone made this recipe?  Was it good?  Did you use pork tenderloin or a Boston butt pork roast?  Our local grocery store has pork tenderloin on sale for $1.99 lb., which I would think is a good price, but if a Boston butt pork makes better pulled pork, then that is what I would buy.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

[ Edited ]

I just posted a recipe (link) last night for ribs using that combo.  It was a slow cooker recipe but I'll probably use the pressure cooker.  I haven't tried it yet.

Re: Pulled Pork with Root Beer?

@wismiss  -  I've made this recipe many times, EXCEPT, I've only used pork chops.  I use the can of root beer with the Sweet Baby Ray's, cook with boneless pork chops in the crock pot and then pull apart.  It's FABULOUS and our family LOVES it!  Sorry that I can't comment on using a pork roast.  I would think it would be as good.  I think you'll like it, the taste is great!  Good luck!!!Woman Very Happy

Re: Pulled Pork with Root Beer?

I prefer Coca Cola and Boston butt

I like Root Beer but I've never tried it.    I have used Coke.

@wismiss  I think your dish will be fine.  A few weeks ago, I made a pulled pork with Dr Pepper (a drink I do not like at all), and the meat was delicious.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

Re: Pulled Pork with Root Beer?

I agree with @IamMrsG, I prefer Dr. Pepper, but I always use boston butt for pulled pork.

The meat is juicier and more flavorful, IMO.

I have used rootbeer soda, but the last time I used Fanta pineapple soda, a little white wine and Sweet Baby Rays barbeque sauce. Delicious.

Re: Pulled Pork with Root Beer?

I prefer working with boneless meat, so I always make pulled pork with pork loin.
