This is such delicious cold weather eating! Even though it's not so very cold here in SoCal, we eat a lot of soup in December; it's an easy way to have a great meal with good nutrition while we're busy, busy, busy. Enjoy!

Old World Chowder

1/2 lb bacon, fried crisp and chopped; reserve drippings
1/2 c chopped onion
3/4 c chopped celery
1-1/2 c cubed raw potatoes
1 c sliced carrots
1 lb chopped broccoli
1 c shredded sharp cheese
1 c water
1 1/4 t salt
1/4 t pepper
1/4 c flour
1 qt milk

Brown onion in bacon drippings. Add celery, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, water, salt, and pepper. Simmer 15 minutes. Mix flour with a little milk; stir into vegetables. Add 1 qt milk. Cook until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Add bacon and 1 cup shredded sharp cheese.

Absolutely delicious.
