I have made the bread that you bake in the Le Crueset pot BUT the bottom turned black and I had a heck of a time getting it to look better.

If I put parchment would it help or is there another way to bake?

I always put parchment paper in my dutch oven for this recipe.  Mine doesn't turn black.

Is your pan too close to the heating element?

Every recipe I've seen calls for shaping the loaf on parchment paper and placing it in the dutch oven with parchment paper hanging over the sides so it's easy to lift out when done.

Agree, middle rack in the oven.

Any recipe I've ever seen for it says to put parchment paper in the dutch oven.

i made some for the first time last week and i made it in a glass pyrex casserole dish.  i did not use parchment paper, but the directions did say to preheat the dish in the oven for half an hour.   there was no brown/burning on my loaf.
