I saw a recipe for pierogies in crock add onions ...peppers and mushroom soup. Do add the onions raw and peppers it doesn't say ?

If it doesn't specify that they should be cooked in advance, then they should go in raw. Any recipe will call out that items need to be browned or sauteed first if that's the case.
The exception to this might be meats. Many recipes call for putting the meat in raw, but I often rub meat with salt and pepper and sear it before adding it to the crockpot, especially beef or pork. I like to marinate meat before cooking it in a crockpot, but that's optional unless the recipe tells you to do so.

I'd say put them in raw too.

Generally, I cut my onions a little larger because they tend to cook down.
Thought I'd also mention that there are some great Crock Pot cookbooks by Crockpot. I think official books are often surperior to other books
