I like this one too. I especially am interested in the layer of butter, pecans and brown sugar pressed into bottom crust. This indeed looks like a winner!!! A little nice twist!

@shoekitty .....you know, I think it is that bottom layer that makes the difference.  Guess I should  make one myself...it's been a long time.....one of those ..."mom always does it better"..😉....so I forget about it.

For those that might try it, let me know what you think.

I'd make that and leave out the pumpkin.  That would be pecan pie.  I'm not a real fan of pecan pie, but less a fan than if it had pumpkin in.  Woman Embarassed

@vabreeze

When checking the Recipes section of the forums I noticed your post about pumpkin pies.  I decided to post a Pumpkin Custard Pie recipe from my mother's book of many years ago.  It is still a favorite of our family.  I hope you like it too.

PUMPKIN CUSTARD PIE

Ingredients:

3 eggs

2 cups pumpkin (fresh or canned)

3/4 cup sugar (may use less if desired)

1/2 teas. salt

1 2/3 cup milk

pumpkin pie spice (apx. 1 1/2 teas.)

sprinkle cinnamon on top

Using large bowl whip eggs.  Add pumpkin and sugar and blend together.  Add salt, milk and spice and blend well.  Pour into two pie crusts.  Sprinkle with cinnamon to taste.

Instructions:

Bake at 375 degrees, 45-60 minutes.  Or at 400 degrees, 25-30 minutes.

Yield:  2 pies

Thank you for sharing your mother's recipe. I have saved it and will also try it. The appeal of walker's post for me was that she wasn't particularly fond of pumpkin pie (neither am I except for the ONE time that I ate a slice that was out of this world delicious) but enjoyed her mother's pie recipe. Praline and custard as part of both recipes have me salivating mentally.

Can you tell me if the outcome of your mom's PCP will be the same if I halved the recipe? Being iffy about pumpkin, I would rather not make two pies the first time out of the gate.

I do like the simplicity of your recipe. I also plan to make both recipes using fresh pumpkins. I am now trying to find out what kind of pumpkin makes the best pies.

I've always used the recipe on the Libby's can, but use pumpkin pie spice instead of all the separate spices.  Mom used this, too, and it is the best!  She made the best crust!

Re: Need help trying to find a pumpkin pie recipe previously posted here

I get a few daily newsletters about food.

Recently, one had the question "who makes the best store-bought pumpkin pies?" which assessed various grocery chains' offerings.

The best store-bought pie award went to Costco.

The best pumpkin pie in the grocer's freezer award went to Marie Calendar.

In case you just want to buy one and cook something else from scratch.

@vabreeze

I have always made two pies when making the recipe.  However, if you half the ingredients I sent you it should turn out fine.  The pie does not have a strong pumpkin flavor.  That's one reason our family loves it.  I plan to make it for our next potluck dinner.
