Went down to the basement bookshelf to get the old Betty Crocker Cookbook with the red cover (hardbound), a circle on the front cut into pie wedges, and a different picture in each wedge. I used the recipe in there to make my grandmother's whipped cream sponge cake, which I wanted to make for my granddaughter's birthday. The recipe is a yellow sponge cake which I think is used in the recipe for a jelly roll.
My grandmother died when I was 12 and I was not really thinking about asking for recipes. When I was old enough to bake, I asked my mother for the recipe and was surprised to find out she didn't have it, nor did any of my aunts. I made 10 or 12 different recipes looking for the texture and taste I so fondly remembered. The one in this cookbook was the closest I could get. I realized today that it was one of the cookbooks I lost in a flood a year ago. I never wrote the recipe down anywhere else as I always knew where to find it.
If anyone has this cookbook, I would really appreciate if you could post the recipe for me. I'm kicking myself for not copying the recipe elsewhere. The books were so soaked that I couldn't even get the pages apart even if I had thought about it at the time. Thanks.
