Just wanted to share, we always had black-eyed peas and pork. Also, this had nothing to do with food, but my Mom had a tradition that the first person in the house on the New Year had to be a man, supposed to be for good luck? Anyone else know about this custom?

YEP!  First one over your home's threshold on New Year's Day was suppose to be a dark haired man to bring luck to your home.  No idea where that came from or why, but definitely and old tradition in our family.
