Someone mentioned adding Stovetop Stuffing to Meatloaf - I've never tried it, but it sounds good...

My question is: Do you simply add the entire (dry) pkg. to the meat mixture, or do you make it according to the instructions, then add it? Smiley Indifferent

@LavernLuvsShoes

I've added it to the raw meat mixture.   (You may need MORE liquid, tho...like tomato sauce, broth, or whatever flavor you prefer).

I wouldn't use the whole box of stuffing, tho.   Just whatever "looks right".     di

Re: Meatloaf with Stuffing...

Add dry. I use 4 ingredients, ground beef, eggs, stuffing mix, catsup. There are other variations, just search Stovetop Stuffing Meatlaof.

I often do this and we like it this way. I add 2 eggs, the dry stuffing mix and if it seems to be dry I will add a bit of milk.

Re: Meatloaf with Stuffing...

I'm not a fan of meatloaf with bread and eggs in it.  I just add some finely chopped onion, bell pepper and some spices of choice, a blob of ketchup and some days just a little chunky salsa or even alone to the meat.

Re: Meatloaf with Stuffing...

I've made individual stuffed meatloves by lining a large coffee cup with Saran wrap, molding a layer of meat to line the cup, then filling with prepared stuffing.  Make a small patty for the top and press so it's sealed.  Easily lift out of the cup to put in baking dish.  I made a sauce out of cream soup, a little milk, ketsup,  and Worchestershire.  Pour over the meat and bake.

This gives you real meat-flavored stuffing.

Re: Meatloaf with Stuffing...

You all have made me hungry for meatloaf.  I'm 81, have made a lot of meatloaf over the years and don't think I've ever made the same exact recipe more than once.  And now you have given me even more ideas.  Thank you.  I love leftover meatloaf even better for sandwiches.

Re: Meatloaf with Stuffing...

@LavernLuvsShoes  Here's the recipe I found many years ago:

Easy Pleasing Meatloaf

Ingredients

1 cup water
2 lb. lean ground beef  (if you use 80/20 it’s going to fall apart)
1 pkg. (6-1/4 oz.) STOVE TOP Stuffing Mix, any variety
 2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup KRAFT Original Barbecue Sauce, divided  or use ketchup (or a mixture of both)

Directions:

Mix all ingredients except 1/4 cup of the barbecue sauce.
SHAPE meat mixture into oval loaf in 13x9-inch baker or a sheet pan; top with remaining 1/4 cup barbecue sauce.  (I use a sheet pan lined with foil and parchment paper, but if you have a ceramic 9 x 13 baker, it will be easier to remove) BAKE at 375°F for 1 hour or until center is no longer pink.

Re: Meatloaf with Stuffing...

Ok Ladies,

I always add salsa, egg, ketchup and bread crumbs to my meatloaf, but next time I make it, I'm adding the stuffing (instead of the bread crumbs). Smiley Wink
