Has anyone ever heard of stuffing a turkey with meatloaf?
This is what my husband's family always did and I have never heard of anyone else doing it.
After all this time I finally thought of asking about it here where there are many posters from different regions and different nationalities across this country.
I am interested to hear of anyone else doing this.

Sounds like a recipe for salmonella to me. I never liked things cooked in a turkey anyway, and for sure now days.

Sounds greasy. I do have a recipe where I stuff meatloaf with bread stuffing and make a gravy out of cream of something soup. It's excellent and is beloved especially by men and kids. I like it too.

@abbalulu That just sounds nasty. I don't even put dressing in my turkey. I make a fabulous meatloaf but no way would it go into anything! I agree, it sounds unsafe and greasy, ick.

I never heard of it and it would be a no for me.

My Mom would stuff a meatloaf with a hard cooked egg.

@abbalulu So many different family traditions but your husbands family is fascinating. I would love to know how it's prepared and the ingredients. I can't give an upon on something I haven't tried, especially food. I hope you get an answer.

My mother's stuffing was wonderful and included ground beef. When I sat with her to save the recipe as she aged, my notes read as follows:
"Sauté onion, celery, and garlic in butter. Add a liquid-milk, cream soup, mushroom gravy or something similar. Add 1/2 a roll of milk cracker crumbs. Cool. Add 2 eggs and 1-1/2 pounds hamburg. Season with herbs of choice. Optional additions: chestnuts, mushrooms. Should be a loose consistency, add another egg if needed."
This was cooked inside the turkey and everyone's favorite part of the meal. We are all alive decades later. When I married in 1980, my husband requested I make his mother's bread stuffing which I did out of consideration for his traditions. I guess I never considered my mother's stuffing as "meatloaf" but it does seem to have similar ingredients though, to me, it never tasted like meatloaf.

I heard of turkey meatloaf made in a loaf pan, similar to hamburger meatloaf, but not stuffed inside a turkey.
I can see adding turkey to a stuffing mix, then putting it into the turkey, but I wouldn't call that meatloaf.

What kind of meatloaf? Hamburger or turkey?
Turkey meatloaf is sold along with hamburger meatloaf in my area, but I never heard of anyone calling a stuffing, meatloaf.
The hamburger meatloaf I make is mostly meat, not so much bread, so it wouldn't work as a stuffing, not that I would want hamburger stuffing in a turkey.
