Low Carb SOS for One

4 oz hamburger meat browned with some chopped onion. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Add 1 cup half and half or cream, 2 oz cream cheese. Stir and add water if needed. Add some soy sauce for color and flavor. Cook alittle and serve over fried eggs.

My dad was a Marine and made his version all the time when I was growing up. We ate it for breakfast and dinner. He served his on toast with fried eggs on top with a side of fried diced potatoes. YUM YUMSmiley Happy Smiley Happy

I thought SOS was made with a Roux that was turned into a white gravy. which was made using flour and the fat from the beef.

Tink, you're going to have to Google that one as it's not allowed on these boards trust me . . . Smiley Happy

Or maybe I could try this (and Moderators please don't get mad at me):

**** on a shingle . . . very big in the military and I think a delicious meal!

Tink, If you've seen those bumper stickers and tee-shirts proclaiming "STUFF Happens" (that's the sanitized version, of course), then remember that this was a military term used (affectionately) in chow lines for "STUFF On a Shingle" -- or in more refined circles "Creamed Beef on Toast."

Tink, this is particularly for you -- as a youngster I worked with a bunch of sharp guys who were diligent in cleaning up their acronyms for my delicate ears.  So I learned about RTFM (Read the FRIENDLY Manual), "taking a WAG at it" (Wild AERONAUTICAL Guess) and FUBAR (FOULED Up Beyond All Recognition).

And the Creamed Beef on Toast which was one of my favorite meals growing up was made with thin salty slices of dried beef (comes in a jar made by Armour -- usually on the shelves near Spam).  I had never heard of it made with ground beef until I was grown and working.
