LOOKING FOR MORE HEALTHY DESSERTS

I admit it, I like a little something after dinner.  My go-to has been a small dish of light ice cream, and maybe a cookie or two, but I think I can do better.

Right now, I made a bowl of sugar-free orange jello with a large can of mandarin oranges thrown in.   A dollop of whipped cream, 15 calories, is good with it.

Looking at all the food emails I get, they're big on cakes and other typical heavy sugar dishes.

So .........  I'm assuming many will default to fruit, but would love to know what you have for "light" desserts.

TIA   Woman Happy

@Tinkrbl44 your offering sounds good and very low calorie.

I wish I could do better but the truth is I can't!

I love blackberries in season and a small helping of those (especially in the summer) hits the spot. Strawberries with a tiny "hit" of whipped cream is another option.

When it comes to ice cream, resistance is futile. A few times during the summer, only a small waffle cone of strawberry cheesecake ice crfeam will do. Smiley Very Happy

Non-fat Greek yogurt.  12-15 grams of protein.  Either Light & Fit or Trader Joe's, 80 or 90 calories.

Of course, the yogurt is my dessert  AFTER my 1 piece of Dove dark chocolate!!!

@Tinkrbl44 ...... two friends have shared this recipe with me but I have not tried it yet.  I guess it originated with Betty Crocker and also heard it was used as a Weight Watcher recipe.  It can be made in tube pan or 9x13" pan.  You might want to check online for this recipe as well but there are only 2 ingredients.  Talk about easy!  Top with Cool Whip if desired.

Angel Food-Pineapple Dessert

1 angel food cake mix

1 20 oz. can crushed pineapple and juice

Preheat oven to 350. (If using non-stick pan, 325)  Mix together ingredients and put in 9x13" ungreased pan*. Bake 35-40 minutes.

* I would check Angel food cake mix directions on whether to grease or leave ungreased.  I read somewhere about putting parchment paper down.

How about no sugar added applesauce? Maybe with some added fresh fruit? Btw, I am often put off by the fact that so many of the recipes in the Recioes Forum are loaded with sugar, not to mention high carb ingredients, in general.

That is so good. Yup, that's the whole recipe. I make it in a 9 x 13 pan. Unfortunately it's so good it's easy to eat the entire cake.

I like non-fat Jello, too.

I only occasionally add fruit and just skip the whipped cream.

Other times, I just cut up a nice apple or orange into slices.   I seem to be more inclined to eat them as a dessert if they are cut up on a small nice plate.

Re: LOOKING FOR MORE HEALTHY DESSERTS

@Tinkrbl44 For a treat?   Yasso frozen bar!  I like strawberry or the chocolate one in a bowl topped with raspberries!

Fruit, fruit smoothie with almond milk unsweetened, a dab of fat free plain yogurt, fruit of choice and a bit of frozen banana.  We have a Nutra Bullet for these and it is worth every penny!

We can add fiber, protein powder, or whatever nutrient we are missing in a fruit smoothie, low cal, low fat dessert!!!!

Re: LOOKING FOR MORE HEALTHY DESSERTS

Fruit is lovely but doesn't satisfy my sweet tooth. We have to limit certain fruits in our house due to diabetes and their high sugar content.

Bananas have to be on the green side, berries, small apples and pears are good. Pineapple and grapes are a no.
