Re: Just because someone writes a cookbook that's no guarantee the recipes are good.

There is nothing worse than making a meal from a recipe, sitting down to eat it with the family and realizing how bad it is! I had that happen to me twice and both recipes were from famous "TV chefs". I stick to my tried and true recipe book - Betty Crocker Picture Book.

I think Martha Stewart proved that years ago. I stick to Ina Garten, Julia Child and the old standards - Betty Crocker & Better Homes & Garden.

I use cookbooks for inspiration and don't necessarily follow a recipe to a tee. Lately more and more of my baking recipes and techniques come from unknown bloggers.

Yes.....it really all depends on your own tastes and ""likes"".

On 3/2/2014 Chalcedony said: I prefer recipes and recipe books from Cook's Illustrated. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience with one of their recipes. I'm not interested if a celebrity, or even worse -a reality tv star, writes a cookbook.

It's good to know which cookbooks have pleased you and your family. I stick with Gooseberry Patch and Taste of Home. I then know other women have tried these.

Re: Just because someone writes a cookbook that's no guarantee the recipes are good.

I've wasted so much money on cookbooks that have turned out to be lousy or the ingredients for the recipes too hard to find and too expensive to use only once or twice. I'm now using recipes found on the internet that have already been rated. My days of buying cookbooks are in the past.
