Has anyone made hotdogs with sauerkraut in a crockpot?  We like hotdogs a little on the crispy side, so I'm thinking the hotdogs would have to directly on the bottom?  But, wouldn't the sauerkraut default that?  Does the sauerkraut have to be drained first?  We'll be having a large neighborhood garage sale this weekend, starting very early and going way past lunch.  I'm too far from my kitchen to be going back and forth, but I can leave crockpot in the basement area where it's closer.  I thought hotdogs would be easiest but if anyone has any other ideas, I'd welcome that too!  TIA!

I don't see why not.  However, I doubt you'll get cripsy hot dogs in a crockpot whether you put them on the bottom or top.  Hot dogs are fully cooked, so all you're doing is heating them up.  With raw meats it's suggest you sear first.  They recommend to put food that takes the longest to cook on the bottom, but if you're also using pre-cooked (canned or jarred) saurkraut I don't think it really matters which you put on the bottom as all you're doing is heating up both of them.

Fry your hot dogs in a frying pan.  Better if you have cast iron.  Skip the crock pot.

I put my hot dogs in the air fryer.  They come out nice and browned, crispy and juicy!

You will be busy so just have the hot dogs and kraut as it comes from the crock pot. The dogs will not be crispy.  Or just fix some sandwiches and make soup in the crock pot.  Keep it simple.

My daughter tried it once for a party and ended up throwing them away.  They looked disgusting and discolored.

Re: HOTDOGS IN CROCKPOT?

[ Edited ]

I love hot dogs and sauerkraut and I am all things crispy or well done.  With my dogs I just cut up and stir fry with a bit of Worcestershire sauce and spicy mustard with onions then spoon over the heated kraut.  Cornbread sometimes on the side.

If you want to use a crock pot for cooking and to keep them warm, sounds like you need two crock pots.  I cook a lot and have two for holiday meals.  Maybe you could borrow a crock pot.

My parents owned a restaurant and often had parties there for kids where hot dogs and sauerkraut were on the menu.

Sauerkraut is raw cabbage that has been in a brine for months.  It is not cooked.  It should be cooked before it is served.  One way to cook it is in a crock pot.

You should cook it in the crock pot for a few hours.  Cook your hot dogs separately, then add them right before you serve it and turn down the heat on the crock pot to warm.

If you put the hot dogs in with the kraut, the dogs will over cook, split and get mushy.
