I LOVE them! Living in the South, if DH and I eat out and they are on the menu, we order and share. They are one of the few fried foods I will eat as a treat.
A long time ago, I used to make them with seasoned Italian bread crumbs-adding additional parmesan and serve them on slices of fresh mozzarella or barratta cheese with a drizzle of balsamic glaze.....heaven!

My sister back up in Ind. I'm in Tx, but, trying to teach these poor folk how to eat. LOL anyway, my sister suggested Panko breading. I tried and pitched.
Couldn't get down with it. LOL
Down here it's all hot as **** spices . Wish I could , never mind....let's just say when we went to a church social at Thanksg. and saw jalapeno turkey we go 'say what' !!!!!!!! That's just not right, now.

I am from the northeast and have never tasted fried green tomatoes. Can someone describe what they taste like? Curious minds want to know.

I think they are one of those unique foods that don't taste similar to anything else, like okra and avocado!
The batter they are fried in compliments the tomato and the combination is a delicacy!
Don't expect them to taste like ripe tomatoes. No comparison.
Maybe similar to a tomatillo? But the batter completes the taste!
