I have an abundance of beautiful, ripe black Mission figs..sweet as sugar and tender as a mothers kiss!

Even after I let he wild parrots eat their fill, I have loads!

Any one have any good ideas for how to use them?

Maybe something I can make and take in to work like a fig upside down cake or something  like that?

I have been eating out of hand, sprinkling wiht balsamic, wrapping in prosciutto and grilling.

Need some ideas fromyou creative folks-

Thanks!

Re: Figs Figs, Figs Figs! Help!

@Mothertrucker, I have fig envy! These days I have limits as to how many I can eat, but I grew up with them being canned in heavy syrup....fresh figs with cheese-your choice: I love them with a little feta and an almond or two for crunch.... or ricotta...if I could have as many as I wanted, I would make a dense loaf of fig bread (surely such a thing exists? If it doesn't, use the "bones" of your favorite zucchini bread recipe)....roasted figs and any pork were meant to be together... I once had this incredible sauce made with a puree of figs and ruby port with some garlic thrown in....that sauce also elevates able turkey tenderloin.....

Do you freeze any???

I am sure you could find an explosion of recipes in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Cuisine....

I love Missions: getting fresh is a rarity. Brown Turkey's are the variety we get the most of down here....I will be looking for them now when I go to the grocery....

I love fruit in salad and figs are divine: I love them with some kind of balsamic or really good Italian dressing....I will certainly be following this thread!

@Mothertrucker

Me, too! (envy!) Back in June I finally got to taste a real fig! Presently, I am on a Harney & Sons Capri tea kick (fig flavored).

I, also was thinking you must be able to freeze them somehow.

@Poodlepet2

With the balsamics I get from Seasons Taproom, figs would be wonderful!! I could easily see how pork or turkey & a sauce made from figs would be very complimentary.

My nieghbors, family and coworkers are all sharing with me..

Just did a grilled brie, fig and balsamic breakfast sandwich..

Great ideas!  Need to see about freezing them or at least the "puree"..

My mother always made freezer jam with the figs from the tree in the back yard.  I'm sorry I don't have the recipe, but it was the same as strawberry freezer jam.  I'm sure it's on Pinterest.

Enjoy those figs!

Re: Figs Figs, Figs Figs! Help!

Make a delicious fig tart and serve with ice cream. Put them in salads. My mom makes fig preserves...delicious on toast. Freeze them individually on a baking sheet and then put into a zip lock to Make tarts in winter. Eat them in yogurt,cottage cheese,or ice cream. Or better yet, mail them to me. Figs are my favorite fruit.
