Re: FOR THOSE WHO HAVE TROUBLE PEELING EGGS

Thank you.  I'm liable to forget this tip as I rarely make hard-boiled eggs.  But I'll look this up the next time I do.

@mousiegirl   It would be great if this worked 100% of the time but it doesn't.  Not all eggs are cracked up to be the same, shells are different as are the eggs, where they come from, who lays them, how hard the shells may be.

I've tried this method, especially when I make a bunch for deviled eggs let's say. Some peel beautifully while others may take half the egg white with the shell.

Here's what I do - drain the hot water, fill pot with cold to end the cooking. Drain and put the four or so in the fridge. I eat a hard boiled egg every morning. I'll tap to crack the shell in a couple of places, put it in a cup of really hot water to warm it up as I don't like to eat cold eggs. Let the hot water get under the shell, then I usually have better luck peeling it.

@PINKdogWOOD   Since I read once that white eggs peel easier, I buy them at costco, along with the brown eggs, but use the white for hard boiled.  I cooked just two eggs yesterday as I wanted medium cooked, where the yolk is still a bit oozy, and it worked again.I realize that everyone has their own way, but as no method ever worked for me, I tried this and I am sold.  I didn't even have to crack the eggs in order to peel, just put a bit of pressure and they popped off.

Or you can just go to Costco and buy hard boiled eggs already peeled.

Pressure cooker for me.  In fact, it's almost the only thing I cook in that little thing.  Plunge in cold water afterwards.

I've tried the putting in cold water and then the refrigerator after just boiling them, and they end up looking like they had a bad case of acne growing up after I try to peel them.  Still taste good, but look awful.  Guess that means more for me.

@mousiegirl   We all have our methods for peeling eggs as you said. I buy organics and/or heirlooms, thicker shells. I get through them one way or another.

@Houstonoilers   I see already peeled eggs in stores around here too. They put them in vending machines too. I'd never buy eggs like this though as I've no idea where they're from nor when they were cooked. Yes, there's probably a date on them but still, not for me.

@Icegoddess   I gave my never used Wolfgan Puck pressure cooker to DD.  It's all I can do to fit his air fryer in, so big, no more gadgets for me.

@mousiegirl There is a gadget for everyone!  Woman Very Happy  We use our Instant Pots (we have 3 and 6 qt. and use the 3 by far the most) several times a week.  The air fryer sits in the garage--somewhere!  Woman Embarassed

Re: FOR THOSE WHO HAVE TROUBLE PEELING EGGS

I guess nobody else here has chickens because then you know that "The age of the egg affects how easily the shell will peel away after cooking. Eggs that are too fresh will have difficult shells to remove without damaging the egg white. It is best to use eggs that are at least 7 to 10 days old, allowing the egg to take in air which helps separate the membrane from shell". I always write the day I brought the eggs in from my girls and hardboil the older ones. This is what makes the difference in how easy they peel.
