Experimenting with my Vitamix. Made two, two ingredient smoothies that were good. Here a the recipes

[ Edited ]

Hello. I have been experimenting with my new Vitamix this week and I‘m also comparing the results to some drinks I make in my Oster Blender. Yesterday, I tried two different drinks. I need to eat more leafy greens but I have trouble chewing them. I bought baby spinach this week. I love it in salads with feta cheese and I miss eating my salads. Anyway, I only have water, milk and Vanilla Silk Soy milk on hand right now. I tried putting regular whole milk, about 8 ounces in the Vitamix and two large handfuls of baby spinach and I blended it. I expected this to taste awful but I was pleasantly surprised. It tasted very good. I’ll definitely do this again. I didn’t want anymore regular milk so I added about 12 ounces of the vanilla soy milk and a red bell pepper and blended. This was also good. I have done the red bell pepper with regular milk in my Oster. It comes out without froth when you use a regular blender. Two easy and quick ways to get my leafy greens and my vitamin C. Hooray!

Woud you say the Vitamix is better than the Oster?

I agree about flavor - I have a cheapie blender (but it's really cute on the counter) and I usually do 1/2 frozen banana, a bunch of frozen cauliflower, carrots, and spinach, a splash of skim milk, a handful of fresh fruit if it's around, sometimes a pinch of Splenda (I know, just ruined it, right!) and it's really good.  Yum.

The cheapie blender takes a bit of tweaking to get the mix right so it blends right away, but it's not hard and the consistency is nice and smooth.  I had a Ninja Storm and though I used it to death and it served me well, my smoothies weren't that smooth.

So far, and it’s only been three days, I can’t say the Vitamix is better than my Oster. When I bought my Oster it was not a cheapie. I can’t comment on the performance of modern Osters.I will need more experiences with the Vitamix to make the comparison definitive. I love my Oster. It has a glass carafe and it has many settings. I've had it for years. I make so many things with it. I also love my kitchenade food processor but it’s a hassle to take it out all the time. I also like my immersion blenders but I don’t use them frequently. I use my handheld KItchenaid mixer more than my giant KItchenade Stank MIxer...Professional Series. One thing I might add about the Vitamix is that the frothiesness of the drinks is undesirable. This problem is worse than the smoothness issue in my Oster, which makes things almost as smooth as the Vitamix but with no nasty froth on the top of the drinks.

I’ll have to give your two ingredient smoothie a try.  I usually use a small flavored yogurt, orange juice, frozen berries and then I’ll add a vegetable or two (spinach or carrots, etc.). It’s fun to experiment. 😃

I just made another one. I was expecting it to turn out to be the consistency of yogurt but it turned out a smoothie. I guess if you process at hupigh rpms it will do this. This one is delicious. About 2 cups of Dannon While Milk Vnilla Yogurt in first. Then add 8, could have been a couple more or less, baby carrots. I stated out pulsing in 1 and did this a few times then I gradually increased to high and did this twice,p, Made a pretty peach colored drink. A CARROT SMOOTHIE WITH JUST TWO INGREDIENTS. Makes about 18 or 19 ounces. Mmm, plus there was no I desireable frothiness on top.

I just bought a Vitamix and I love it. So easy to use and clean. Today I did almond milk, frozen peaches, frozen mangoes, a 4 oz coconut greek yogurt, a chopped apple, and a few chunks of frozen pineapple. Good Lordy it was sooooo creamy and delicious. We are hooked on this thing!

I have a Vitamix, + an old model Oster that belonged to my mom. The Oster is a HORSE....strong motor, & still going strong after about 50 years!

I really like my Vitamix, & the fact that it has a much larger capacity than the Oster. But what I don't like at all is the PLASTIC container (Oster is heavy glass). The inside of my Vitamix is all scratched just from simple use- it looks awful. The Oster container still looks like new, & it's extremely sturdy. Smiley Happy

Btw, the Oster has been used probably over a thousand times....been through lots of parties!

@Mindy D  Another here that just bought a Vitamix.  I am trying to eat more clean - and have brought no processed food into the house the last 2 weeks.  I have made mostly smoothies for lunch and I'm eating more salads as an entree a couple times a week and have been making different vinaigrettes for that.  I'm gonna try some marinades for chicken next.  Have always been someone that would eat dinner and about 8pm wander out to see what I could find for "dessert".

I have been buying a bag of apples and making applesauce in the Vitamix bc it only takes minutes and it tastes so fresh and different than anything you can buy.
