Do they still have chipped beef in a little glass jar?

It's neat how one thread will bring up questions.  Chipped beef was a huge part of my mother's cooking repertoire, but she had to have the little jars.  We used those as juice glasses when empty.

Seen it at Wegmens - glass was a primary packaging method back when..  Later came plastic in some form = less weight - less breakage - cheaper.

I have never seen it in jars. Sounds interesting.

We always bought dried chipped beef and made it with a little flour, butter and milk.

I have never tasted it, but I have made it.  I don't like dried beef.  Too salty.  I have never eaten salty foods.

@depglass , I still have a couple of those glass jars.  My mother also saved and used them for juice glasses!

I've looked and haven't been able to find them in any grocery stores around here.

Google shows them - -in glass - at many stores. We also kept the jars.

Apparently the Navy served CB too often cuz my husband had a not so nice name for chip beef.  I never served it for dinner = never.

LOL

When Hubby and I were first married, My MIL gave me several of her recipes. Chipped beef  S.O.S. was one of our favorites that she gave us.

I just looked it up on Kroger website it's Armour Dried Beef in a glass jar. Comes in 2 different sizes, 2.25 oz and 4.5 oz.

I don't rember the glass jar looking like it does now. I used to save the glass jars too

Yes, I buy the dried beef in glass jars often at Wal-Mart.

@depglass   I remember it in little glasses with dried beef. You popped the top off and you had a glass not a jar. There is an old recipe for hot dried or chipped beef spread made with cream cheese, sour cheese, chopped green and red bell peppe, green onions and topped with chopped pecans. This was a standard appetiser served at parties years ago. I don't know if people still serve this but let me tell you it is yummy served on crackers or sliced baguettes.

My mom made creamed chipped beef on toast. Very salty. We, also, used the little jars for juice glasses. Haven't had in many, many years.
