Creamy Cranberry recipe, help.

My mother used to make a creamy cranberry jello salad.

It was made with Black Cherry or Dark Raspberry jello mix, either one would do.

It was made with cranberry jello in a can, not the whole berries.

If I remember correctly first she would mix the black cherry or dark raspberry (depending on the size she used) following the recipe on the box, she may have reduced the amount of water. She let it partially set in the fridge.

While it set, she would open the can of cranberry jello and put it in a pan and completely melt it, do not burn it. She would then let it cool to room temperature.

She would mix together the above until creamy.

This is where I need help. I don't remember if she used dream whip or sour cream.

I seem to remember sour cream.

She was from Oklahoma.

Does anyone else remember this salad?

It was a staple on every holiday table, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas from the sixties to 2006 when she passed away.

I have never heard of that, but it sounds like a wonderful thing to bring to a potluck or a friend's Thanksgiving dinner. I will watch for replies.

She never topped it with whip cream or cool whip. It was rich enough on it's own. It has to stay cool.

Re: Creamy Cranberry recipe, help.

There's a recipe for "Creamy Cranberry Salad" on the allrecipes website that appears to be similar to what you are describing.

I saw that recipe too. It's sour cream and sure sounds like the recipe she is referring to!

Re: Creamy Cranberry recipe, help.

I  have eaten cranberry salad that sounds like what you are talking about.  It was made with cream cheese and jello.

I have seen it with nuts and pinapple added too.  There are a lot of recipes on line for this.  Sometimes it's called Cranberry Fluff.

Re: Creamy Cranberry recipe, help.

@Puppy Galore This salad sounds really good!

I searched through my old church cookbooks and found several similar cranberry salad recipes. They all called for an envelope of Dream Whip, which was a whipped topping that came ready-to-make in a box years ago and which you would whip up with milk. I think Cool Whip supplanted it. One recipe also called for vanilla pudding.

I would think that sour cream with cherry or raspberry jello would be tastier. Cream cheese might also be good?

@deepwaterdotter

@coconut1818

Yes! That's the recipe, the steps are different but still the same recipe.

Thank you both.

I think the one you sent me to is easier to make and quicker.

@Carmie

Thank you, but the recipe I remember has no fruit or cream cheeses, however what you describe sounds delicious too.

Don't you love you love those old recipe books? My favorites are high schools recipe books from the 60's. We used to order them from junior high school home economics classes.
