My initial thought was YUCK!  But then....I remembered the first time I made one of those 7 layer salads that sits overnight, the lettuce wilted and probably was very similar to a creamed lettuce but had the other items (cheese, peas, bacon, etc.) in it too.  Those salads probably aren't supposed to turn out like that but I remembered I actually liked it.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, but Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.

We went to a Pennsylvania Dutch restaurant a few years ago in Pa. and it was served along with my fried shrimp platter.

At first I thought it was coleslaw but I tasted it and it was lettuce. I asked about it and the waitress said it was a Creamed Lettuce.

Lets just say I was not a fan....and my husband disliked it more than I did.

It is an acquired taste.

The salad I ate as a child was essentially a chopped salad with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and green peppers tossed with a thin dressing made of mayo, sugar and vinegar.  Every member of my family made salad this way and it was also served this way at school.

We are also big fans of wilted lettuce; lettuce and onion salad with hot dressing of bacon drippings and vinegar.
