1 cup butter or margarine

2 oz bitter baking chocolate

4 eggs

2 cups sugar

1 1/2 tsp peppermint flavoring

1 cup sifted flour

2 cups chopped nuts

Melt together butter and chocolate over low heat. Cool.

Beat eggs until fluffy. Gradually add sugar to eggs and beat well. Add the peppermint flavoring and chocolate mixture to the egg mixture. Blend well.

Add the flour and nuts and mix well. Spread into a greased 10x15 pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Do not overbake as the chocolate layer should be soft and chewy. When cool, frost with the two frostings given below.

Frosting #1

Beat together until smooth and creamy:

1/4 cup butter

3 cups sifted powdered sugar

3 Tbsp whipping cream

1/8 tsp salt

1 tsp peppermint flavoring

A few drops of green food coloring

Frosting #2

2 oz bitter chocolate

2 tsp butter

Drizzle over first frosting.

After frosting, chill in refrigerator until Frosting #2 is set.

Cut into small squares. These cookies freeze really well!
