1/2 cup margarine

1/2 cup butter flavored Crisco shortening

1/2 cup white sugar

2 cups brown sugar, packed

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp baking soda, dissolved in 1 Tbsp warm water

3 cups sifted flour

1 1/2 cup raisins

Cream margarine, shortening, sugars, and eggs until smooth. Stir in vanilla and soda water. Gradually add flour, blending well. Stir in the raisins.

Drop dough by tsps on ungreased cookie sheet, leaving plenty of room between cookies.

Flatten each cookie to a circle about 2 1/2 inches across and 1/8 inch thick. (I put a small amount of flour on a saucer and frequently dust the heel of my palm lightly with the flour)

Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 9-11 minutes or until brown.

Cookies will puff up and then flatten out as they bake.

Makes about 5 dozen three-inch cookies.
