Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

Christmas Eve we are doing meats for sandwiches and different dips and snacks. Son in law is doing a deep fried turkey and we are cooking a ham.  Not a whole ham either.  Simple meal and eat as you please.  Not doing a big variety of items either and learning to cut back and not a big crowd either.  8 to 10 only.  Kids are always anxious to open and people come and go.

Christmas Day we are having steaks and shrimp at my daughters house.  6 of us.  Nice sit down at the table meal.  Veggie and maybe or maybe not a potato or a salad instead.

New Years prime rib and 6 of us.  Sit down and eat at the table meal.  Salad, veggie and potato.  Sometimes we just skip the potatoes.

Any left overs I make up TV trays and freeze for later or to take to work as well.   Probably make bean soup with ham.

Daughter and family live next door so we share lots of meals and never any waste.  That has really made a big difference on food bills for both places.

Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

For Christmas eve we are going very simple, building your own pizza (made from frozen individual small pizzas) and green salad as a side for those who want salad. We used to do a beef item, like a steak or roast, but everyone decided they didn't want to do 2 sit down big meals on back to back days. Fine by me. Lol.

Christmas dinner is a bone-in pork loin roast, augratin potatoes, corn, applesauce,  yeast rolls. Dessert will be an apple crisp with icecream, as well as all/any of the treats I have made.

Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

The food I cook on Christmas Eve will be what we eat for the holiday weekend; I never cook on Christmas Day, never.

This year I am making meatballs; half in brown gravy, and half in chili sauce, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, baked ham, potato salad, and rolls.

Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

My favorite Christmas dinner in recent times was a bunch of different dishes from the best Chinese restaurant  around.  I think I got 6 entree dishes, plus lots of egg rolls, potstickers, brown rice and whatnot.  We had leftovers for days and I loved it every single time we got everything out.  The best and all we had to do it heat up what we wanted to eat!

This year, I'm going for fresh salmon .....  and other stuff, not sure what else, but it'll be good.  Woman LOL

Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

Just three or four of us on Christmas Eve and it's all snack food. Cheese, crackers, crab dip, veggie pizza, homemade candy, and of course, Mary Beth Roe's mini meatballs in chili/grape sauce. I was watching decades ago when you could mail in a request for the recipes hosts made and I've been making those meatballs for over 20 years.

To Everyone Who Responded:

I have had the best time reading about all the menus and ideas for the holiday. Now I just have to figure out what to choose.

I think it will be a simple menu, for some reason I am not too energized this year lol

Ideas went from take out to cold cuts, roasts, sandwiches,

ethnic, being invited to someone's home, pot lucks, eating out and all else in between.

THANK YOU to all who gave me such good and interesting ideas to help.

Happy Holiday to you all and good eating.

Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

I host both my and DH's family for Christmas Day and have done so since DD that is now 25 was 2.  Even though I have much fewer guests due to deaths in the family, I still have a beef tenderloin every year.  Every year I make a different potato - this year au gratin and a different sauce - madeira,  SIL brings salad and aunt brings rolls.  I serve a cheese board before dinner and something chocolate for dessert- this year a chocolate ganache tart with salted caramel sauce.

Since out family spends Christmas Eve getting ready to celebrate with family on Christmas Day, we get Domino's pizza for dinner.  Domino's is the only pizza place that is open.
