Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

For the first time in many years I don't have to cook Christmas dinner!  We will go to SIL's house....all I have to bring is a pie & bottle of wine.

DD and her DH will be coming on Christmas eve.  We would have gone out to dinner but my goodness the Eagles will be playing Christmas eve so we can't leave!  Have to stay in to watch the game!!

DD will bring her vegetarian lasanga, I also have meatballs and will make pasta and salad to go with it for those who want meat. We also have homemade cookies and an amazing chocolate/peanut butter cake.

For Christmas breakfast, DD is bringing cinnamon rolls, I will make waffles and I happened to be in the local farmer's market last week that had frozen breakfast casseroles.  They are probably easy to make....eggs, ham, sausage and a few other things.

Usually we go out to a nice steak house but this year we decided to stay in so I'm putting a tri tip from Costco in the crockpot, make some mashed sweet potatoes and a veggie and a raspberry cream cheese pie for dessert. We'll probably have dinner outside by the firepit with some wine. It's  just the two of us and we don't go crazy with dinners.

Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

Every Thanksgiving we have this conversation over that dinner.   I let my adult kids choose what they would like for Christmas dinner.   It works out well as they don't veer off too extreme from their favorites and I don't have to stress about it.  This year the vote was Filet Mignon, roasted red potatoes with garlic and onions and a ceasar salad.  For dessert DH will make his famous Kahlua chocolate mousse.

Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

I think the tradition of Christmas Breakfast is so nice.  We had 9 kids in our family, and so that was simply not an option.  We never established that tradition.  After wrapping and setting out gifts for 9 kids and getting ready for Christmas dinner, poor mom would have needed a visit from the North Pole Paramedics if we tacked on breakfast!

Covid has prepared me for the tradition of Christmas Day alone!!  I will make a small ribeye roast with baked potato and broccoli.  Were there any company, whiskey or a Sea Breeze would have been invited along, but by myself.....just my indispensable Coke Zero.  I think that one of the three kings may have brought some of that to the stable.

That is how I feel on Sat., watching my Cowboys.  Between you and me after this past Sunday's embarrassment you will probably be more happy than me.  Heart

Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

@Flatbush Christmas at our house growing up was always ham sandwiches (good ham!), potato chips, maybe some cranberry and orange relish, and pie, pie, pie, pie, pie and a cake.

It was a fun time and we would get so excited about those ham sandwiches, then open gifts and have more pie!

After all but three of the people died, we switched to chicken and dumplings which was a treat for us.  I made the chickens and broth beforehand and froze it, so on the night we just thawed, added bisquick dumplings (cooked 13 minutes lid off; 13 minutes lid on) and that was great too.

I like keeping it simple and having a good time together!

We're having ham, funeral potatoes, and cole slaw for Christmas Eve.  Christmas Day we're having shrimp cocktail, filet mignon, horseradish mashed potatoes, wedge salad, and a lemon cheesecake.

Re: CHRISTMAS EVE and DAY...WHAT IS YOUR MENU? HELP!

There is just me and my DD but we still like a more fancy meal for Xmas--having a couple of nice, small steaks cooked in the airfryer, mexican street corn casserole, green beans almondine , a salad and fresh fruit. for dessert, I am making banana pudding and serving  shortbread cookies. Breakfast is the usual fare  and we will nibble on apps for lunch. Got my groceries coming tomorrow to avoid the rush and making sure all I need is still in stock. Xmas eve is with the family and it is pot luck---, IF ---everyone has tested negative for covid---but I have "just in case" foods for that too.

Christmas Eve in my house is usually some kind of fish, pasta and a big Caesar salad.  So, this year it will be a shrimp cocktail platter, fresh three cheese raviolis with a pink blush sauce, the Caesar salad, a loaf of Italian bread and some homemade cookies and cannolis.

Christmas Day, I generally make a big meal, but this Christmas I won't have to do that.  My daughter, who works at Wegmans, was the winner of the employee complete Christmas Dinner for 10 prize .  So, on Christmas Eve, we have to go and pick up a cooked 15 pound turkey with all the side dishes (mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean bake, herbed stuffing with cranberry, gravy and two pies of our choice.)  All I'm told, I'll have to do is re-heat the turkey and other items.  All instuctions will be provided.  So, this year will be a nice time for me to relax and enjoy  the special time with my family.
