How long would you use buttermillk after the sell by date?  Since it is already sour can you keep it a bit longer than regular milk?

Buttermilk last 1-2 weeks beyond the date printed on the carton....

I've got some in my fridge dated nov, 23 and I'm still using it, matter of fact, just used some today for making cornbread.

Once it develops big chunks, it's too old.  2 weeks is the max for me.

I have powdered buttermilk in the fridge. That lasts quite some time. I have a container also in the pantry for when the previous one is used up. This way it does not go bad as quickly.

I don't use any kind of dairy past it's date but that's just me.

Ha ha @RedTop

That's my rule of thumb as well, if it is chunky, it goes....but I don't pay attention to the dates.

If I know it has been hanging around a while, I first pour into a measuring cup, NOT into my recipe, so I can see...

No lumps?  it is used.

I just use a cup of milk and stir in a little vinegar.  Wait a sec, good to go!

I've kept it and used it longer than 2 weeks, and no problem. I do think it keeps in fermenting. But the lactic acid ( gives the tangy flavor)  may keep it from growing anything harmful- Not unlike vinegar, which is acetic acid.
