This is the same as the "dump cake" that has been around for decades. Not sophisticated, but tasty.

I've been making this cake for several years. My favorite combinations are chocolate fudge cake mix with cherry, yellow cake mix with peaches (add a little nutmeg), white cake mix with blueberry and spice cake mix with apple. Definitely nothing like a dump cake.

I've made the chocolate cake with cherry filling, but the yellow cake with peaches and a touch of nutmeg sounds sublime!

I love spice cake with apple and also carrot cake is really good with apple. I also like either one of those with a can of pumpkin added.

A friend of mine gave me her recipe, which calls for a box of Jiffy White or Yellow Cake Mix, butter or oil, and the pie filling. There are other versions of this on many of the cooking sites. It's so easy and delicious if should be illegal, luckily it's not. cooks.com has all the versions of this. Including this one without any eggs. Cook. Com has recipes you have forgotten and keep searching for,I over the site.

Me too, this is the standard/orginal "Dump Cake" recipe. Except, I cover the cake mix with sliced butter instead of melting. That way it melts more evenly. I also like peaches instead of cherry pie filling. Lol, it's the same recipe just different ingredients & different preparation.

SO easy!!!

Interesting, it is different from a dump cake in that you never mixed ingredients in a dump cake--they were layered. Fruit or pie filling first, then the dry cake mix and finally melted butter on top. I used to sprinkle some walnuts on too.

My mother made it like you describe. She used cherry pie filling, yellow cake, butter and walnuts. I really liked it as a kid, but when I made it once as an adult, I could not eat it for all the sweetness.

Saturday I made the following from my Dump Cakes cookbook -- moist and tasty.

PUMPKIN CHOCOLATE CHIP CAKE

1 pkg. spice cake mix
1 can [15 oz.] solid-pack pumpkin
2 eggs
1/3 cup water
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, melted [optional]

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour 12-cup [10-inch] bundt pan.

Combine cake mix, pumpkin, eggs and water in large bowl, beat 1 to 2 minutes or until blended. Stir in 1 cup chocolate chips. Spread batter in prepared pan.

Bake 35-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted neear center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes; invert onto wire rack to cool completely. Drizzle melted chocolate over cake, if desired.
