Apple raisin walnut cake using pie filling...anyone?

There is a churchlady who makes an applecake with raisins and walnuts that is AMAZING. She brings it to the bakesales, she brings it to funerals, new moms...anyone that is in need of food. She will NOT share the recipe.  The only thing I know is that it uses apple pie filling. I've searched online and no luck. There is no sauce, it is not a poke cake or a pudding cake and it's made in a 9x9 square pan.

Does anyone have a recipe for this? Thank you so much! Smiley Happy

@FiddleDeeDee

I like making 'dump' cakes and I'm sure you can make this using apple filling, then add in the nut & raisins.

I have made this for years. I use two cans of filling, no nuts, and do not melt the butter. Put filling in an 8x8 dish, ys 1/2 a box of cake mix, slice a cube of butter and lay on top. Bake at 350 until the crust is brown and crispy.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (21 ounces) cherry or apple pie filling
  • 1 package yellow cake mix (regular size)
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts, optional

Directions

  1. Place pie filling in a 1-1/2-qt. slow cooker. Combine cake mix and butter (mixture will be crumbly); sprinkle over filling. Sprinkle with walnuts if desired. Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours. Serve in bowls.

The cake you describe sounds like a coffeecake a co-worker used to bring in for a treat:

Cake:

21-oz can Wilderness apple pie filling

1 tsp cinnamon

3 cups flour

1 cup sugar

1 1/2 cups milk

1 stick softened butter

3 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

3 eggs

Topping:

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup chopped walnuts

2 tbsp butter, melted

Glaze:

3/4 cup powdered sugar

1 tbsp butter, melted

3/4 tsp vanilla

2 1/2 tsp hot water

Stir pie filling and cinnamon in dish.

Mix topping ingredients in separate dish.

Beat flour, sugar, milk, butter, baking powder, salt, and eggs in bowl with electric mixer.

Pour 1/2 of batter in greased 9"X13" baking pan.  Spoon 1/2 of pie filling mixture over batter and spread with spatula.  Spread rest of batter over pie filling and level with spatula.  Evenly top with rest of pie filling.  Sprinkle topping mixture over top of cake.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45-55 minutes.  Let cool for 20 minutes.

Beat glaze ingredients until smooth and drizzle over cooled cake.

Since she is using  canned apple pie filling , she likely adds a jar of the mincemeat that is sold in stores next to the canned pie filling

I looked at this post earlier and someone replied with three different websites.  Now I went back to print them out and the post is gone.  Did anyone happen to copy down those sites so they could resend?  I'd like to make for Thanksgiving.  Thanks.

lol! @Group 5 minus 1 !

Reminds me of the thread by @depglass  called "Recipes on Gravestones"-- some people hold onto their secrets a long time lol.

@FiddleDeeDee I am revisiting to follow-up about the recipes, and see that the posts with the recipe, and our subsequent messages pertaining to it are gone so the links were in violation.🤔 It just did not occur to me at the time, but thinking back I am spanking my own hand. I should have pasted the recipes without the links, and will definitely be more mindful in the future.😁

I offer my MOST SINCERE apology for any disruption it might have caused, and am now munching on a slice of "humble pie"💖 I was just SO excited to have found it for you, as was another poster.😊

Either way, I hope everything worked out WELL for you, and that your taste buds will smile when you make one, regardless of the recipe you use. Happy Baking!!!😊
